Alex, inexperienced and tired of being sick and weak, accepts the invitation of his mysterious benefactors. The moment he arrives in New Orleans, he feels that something at the ancient guest house, Maison Noir, has been waiting for him. On Halloween, he meets Jacques, and their bond is immediate. Together, they uncover a startling truth: Ancient forces have awaited their arrival for centuries. Facing expectations thrust upon them and their own demons, they must fight to balance powers that threaten not only them but the boundary between life and death itself.

This fantasy story contains mental health topics, anxiety attacks, depression. There's graphic male-male sex scenes, at times somewhat brutal and coercive (but necessary in the context). Of course, there's also romance.
