The First Lock

   (1 review)

People like Katrena are incapable of procreation. It's the price they have to pay for the gift (curse?) they received in their genes. However, here she is, three positive pregnancy tests later, trying to digest the information...

This story belongs in the "Specter's Gamble" cycle. It has completely different characters (even though it has a few flashbacks with one or two familiar faces), and it could be easily treated like an entirely separate story, the plot of which does not intertwine with the events in "Specter" series. However, the story does originate in the same universe/reality, and it does explain (in more detail) how things work in that world.

Hopefully you will bear with me even though, because of the plot's demands (the whole "pregnancy/baby-making" thing), this story concentrates mainly on M/F relationship -- people-creating-people process requires both sexes and works exactly the same in that universe as it does in this one.

With that said, I hope you will enjoy the ride.
