Rndmrunner Writing Prompts - 3. Chapter 3 Prompt 123

Prompt 123: Challenge

Mention poetry and see the look of fear on so many faces. Choose whichever kind of poetry you prefer to write in, but it must be about one of three topics. Choose from your favorite season, favorite holiday, or your favorite person. Length is up to you, but it must be long enough to give us a sense of why this is your favorite.

Mist at Daybreak

Squirrels chattering in the trees

Damp bejeweled spider webs cling to my legs as I walk.

Sleep still clouds my head

Water seeps into my shoes as the canoe slides into the lake, dew running in rivulets across the hull

Old knees ache as kneeling on my heels the canoe heels over, gunwale slicing at the surface of the water

The silence of the morning, shrouded in the mist, I create my mark on the mirrored surface, sending water spiders into sudden energy as inky ripples colour the once still waters.

At this hour I can wear the canoe like a skin and dance across the surface, a ghostly spirit curtained in fog

The sky, an slowly filling with colour, first thick and with only a hint of blue, then gradually lightening admitting greens and yellows as the light strengthens.

This moment, this hour, this day, this week, time can stop for a while. My focus on only the bow dancing with each stroke, This canoe, an old friend, nicked and scraped with time but a comfortable partner in the morning light
