The Silence of Vonir
An aging assassin tutors the Prince of an upstart nation in politics and in death, without the knowledge of its weak Emperor. An orphan, lost in despair, finds himself an unwitting tool of predestination as his unusual gift for magic brings him to the attention of the world at large.
This story is set in a fantasy world loosely based on Medieval Europe and Arabia, and in places China from the Han Dynasty onward.
The world is fairly large and the initial deluge of names and places may be a little confusing - hopefully this map will help out somewhat.
It may be important for your sense of immersion to consider that characters growing up in the harsh reality of Medieval Europe and, by extension, the main setting for this book, would mature mentally far earlier than they would in modern life - some of the characters begin the story at a young age, and their actions may seem inconceivable to someone of a similar age today.
