Owen and Tracey are a gay couple living in the earliest days of the AIDS epidemic.  Tracey was a hairstylist and Owen repaired watches, but his eyesight was failing and making it impossible to continue doing his job, which made him depressed.  The couple also had connections to quite a few members of a dance group, which had recently suffered a couple of deaths - one due to illness and another from suicide.  It was also a time when the newest treatment for the AIDS was AZT, which was showing some promising results.

At the end of the story, Charleston, S.C. was in the direct path of Hurricane Hugo, which was a very frightening and harrowing time that included a great deal of devastation.  This is an interesting short story filled with a great deal of tension, although I wish the author would have provided a little more closure to the impact these events had on some of the lives of the remaining characters.
