The Tide Began to Rise - Repost - 27. Chapter 27

[Brad’s POV]

The day I spent with Tyler was amazing. I can’t remember the last time we had spent all day with each other. The hardest part for me was restraining myself. I just wanted to hold his hand everywhere we went. When we ate lunch I wanted to take his fork and feed him, not like feeding a baby, but in a romantic sort of way. But I couldn’t, we are not dating.

Something happened when Tyler got out of my car. Something I didn’t expect. Tyler kissed me. Granted, that it was on the cheek. But still, Tyler kissed me.

I drove home with same shocked expression I had after that moment. When I got inside my house, I went straight to the kitchen. I needed a drink. I grabbed a shot glass and my mom’s bottle of Rumple Minze. I poured that liquid in the glass. I raised the glass to my lips. I opened my mouth, the drink passed my lips and went down my throat.

I love the feeling Rumple Minze leaves in my mouth. To me, it is the feeling you get after you get your teeth cleaned by the dentist. It leaves me feeling like my mouth was scrubbed. It doesn’t even feel like I drank any alcohol.

I took the bottle and poured myself another shot. I heard the front door open and then close. My mom walked into the kitchen.

“Oh, hi honey……….What are you drinking there?”

“Ummmmm I’m…………….. taking……………..shots of………………. water. Yeah that’s it.”

“Well, what don’t you pour me a shot of that water.”

She went over to the cabinet and grabbed a shot glass. I opened the battle and poured her a drink.

“What are we saying cheers to?” I asked

“How about……… The delinquency of my minor.” She laughed.

“You can say cheers to that. I will say cheers to my first kiss from Tyler.” I raised my glass. My mom did that same. Then we took our shot.

“So, how long have you been drinking?”

“I don’t know. I don’t do it that often, and never enough to get drunk.”

“Well, if you ever do, call me. I don’t want you drinking and driving.”

“I will”

“Is there anything else that I should know about? Like, are you smoking or doing any other drugs?”

“No mom”

“OK hun, just know that you can tell me anything.”

“I will remember that.”

A thought crossed my mind. What if she turns into one of those moms that are so proud or overly accepting that she ruins my life almost? I want her to accept me, but then again, I don’t want her to take an interest in everything I do.

[Tyler’s POV]

I heard the knock on my door. I ignored it. I hoped that whoever it was would go away when I didn’t answer. It didn’t. They knocked again. I got out of bed and went to the door. It was Brent’s mom.

“Can I talk to you?”

“Can it wait, I’m really tired?”

“Not really.”

“Fine, come in.”

I went back to my bed and sat down. I felt really weird being in just my boxers with her here. I grabbed my blanket and covered myself up. She came over and sat on the bed. At first she didn’t say anything. The look on her face told me she was trying to find the words to say what she wanted to say.

“Was there something you wanted to ask me?” I finally said, mostly to break the uncomfortable silence.

“Kinda, sorta. I want to let you know that I’m ok with you and Brent. I have known that Brent was…..gay for a while. I had my suspicions about you as well. I just wasn’t sure.

“Do you remember that night that you and Brent had your friends over to watch movies? Well, call it motherly instinct, but I went to the basement to check on you guys after I got home. I saw you and Brent holding each other while you were sleeping. That’s when I knew.”

“Really? WOW! Ummm….. You’re really ok with it? I mean me living here and dating Brent?”

“It’s going to take some time for me to get used to the idea, but yes I am. The only thing I ask is that you don’t give me details. And that you don’t make too much noise.”

“I think we can handle that.”

“Ok, well, I think you were trying to sleep, so I will let you get back to that. Good night” She leaned over, gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Then she got the bed and left the room.

I laid my head back down and started to drift back off to sleep.
