Tomato.... in a fruit basket

I went back to my hometown this weekend. The purpose was twofold, firstly, Paya and I were visiting my parents for Christmas before we jet off to the Czech Republic for the actual event. Secondly, we had a large family gathering, where Paya would meet with the majority of my very, very large family.

The thing is, I always feel a little bit like "a tomato in a fruit basket" at family functions. Like the tomato, Technically, I belong there - but in reality it just doesn't feel right.

I went away feeling very depressed - which shouldn't have been the case because family events should be uplifting.

On the positive front, Paya and I got very drunk with my dad on scotch whisky... nothing helps you bond with your new father-in-law more than getting hammered together.

Anyway, not a rambling blog this time.... I just needed to get this out there :(

Night all

Do you really feel like that, or do you just not like big crowds and prefer to be on the edge somewhere. Invariably I hide myself in some sort of activity, so I don't have to engage. Oh, and single malts are just the best escape from it all, if you have an engaging interlocutor!

Enjoy Christmas! Both of you.

Two of my favourite things: whisky and the Czech Republic (I love Prague at Christmas).

I'm so jealous.

At least it sounds as though your dad likes Paya :)

Veselé Vánoce a šťastný nový rok přeje Andy.

I think all have a little depression at Christmas, but sounds like deal old dad found the remedy. lol

I prefer bourbon and the mountains, and could care less if I fit in after a few!  lol

It's hard to feel like you sort of stand out or are not fully a part of something you belong to, especially when it comes to family. The up side is, whiskey IS great for that, it does kind of bring people together. I hope you have a wonderful trip and Merry Christmas.
