And this is why civilized America is embarrassed of the South. The tidal wave trend of acceptance in the US is still stalled in the south, and backwards southerners will fight it till they are eventually forced to accept it. It was the same way with civil rights in the '60s. If they hadn't been forced to accept it, they would still probably have Jim Crow laws on the books now. 

This is pathetic, and one of many reasons northern Americans mock and don't respect the South.

Uh, guys, I'm smack dab in the middle of Memphis, and I can tell you this isn't real. I'm shocked at the responses to the article. Tennessee may be the sociopolitical asshole of the whole country, but we're not that bad.

Well, there's nothing like a spurious bit of satire to bring out what people around the world really think of us in Tennessee.  The National Report "article" was a big spoof from the very beginning and a great joke on all you April fools.

The toughest thing about being a Tennessean is that there are so many ignorant bigots everywhere else.

No, not satire. Satire uses humour to mock its target, this was a straight up hoax. Nor was it an April Fool as it was published March 29th and claimed a May 1 commencement. Britain has Private Eye - anything sourced to that magazine will be satirical

June’s Pride Festival lineup set

Mary Lambert, Lisa Loeb and NONONO are among the performers set to take the stage at the 2014 Nashville Pride Festival on June 13-14 at Public Square Park.

This year’s festivites are expanding to include two nights of entertainment, boast­ing its largest lineup yet. The names are big, too: Lambert is best known for singing on rapper Macklemore’s marriage equal­ity anthem, “Same Love,” which sound­tracked the mass wedding of 34 couples on this year’s Grammy Awards.

Loeb’s signature tune is the 1994 hit ballad “Stay,” and Swedish pop group NONONO has made waves in the U.S. with its dance hit “Pumpin Blood.”

Other performers include Betty Who; J.D. Samson; Nashville artists Ponychase, Steff Mahan and The Harmaleighs; and DJs QDP, DJ Ron, Lady B and DJ Remedy.
