@MyrYou talk about the '80's like it was ancient times.

It is in the realm of language.  Since 1984... we have had widespread computer usage, mobile devices, 24/7/365 connectivity, the Internet, and instant communication planet wide.  And a dedicated group of people profoundly insulted by every aspect of everything every else's life.  I'll just call that "Karen" and define it as "A person with a haunting fear that someone, somewhere, is enjoying some aspect of their life."

"I'm going to liven this up" at a Good Old Boy's party is the equivalent of the infamous "Watch this."

Leave it up to an orange cat to liven your day.

Oh, no. It's miles from hold my beer and watch this. I'm going to liven this up is what a redneck says when he spikes the punch with tequila.

No, that's Eric Carlisle from C. James' Let the Music Play.
