The word pother has an interesting history.  Originally, it was pronounced to rhyme with other, but in the  1800's the pronunciation shifted to rhyme with bother. 

As far as the word's meaning, in the 1590s it meant 'a disturbance or commotion'.  In the 1640s it referred to 'mental trouble', and by the 1690s it meant 'to fluster'.  According to Merriam-Webster, today it means 'agitated talk or controversy, typically over a trivial matter', but it has a secondary meaning: 'a choking cloud of dust or smoke'.   

I don't pother over movies anymore, as there's better written stuff here. Who needs 5$ cokes, 10$ popcorn, and $20 tickets for craptacular movies?
