There is also a book titled "Melancholy", written by Jon Fosse and translated by Grethe Kvernes and Damion Searls.  It is a journey inside a fragile state of mind of a painter, and even though he is extremely vulnerable due to his condition, it also gives him the unique ability of seeing the beauty in different things as well.

If you're a classical music lover, you may also note the melancholy and sadness in some of Beethoven's later works, when he was dealing with his deafness.
