I still think in Alberta you go to your family doctor, also in high demand and not enough of them, before being referred to a pediatrician. Then it is up to the pediatrician if they keep the child as an ongoing patient. But I'm not 100% sure and willing to be corrected.

GP's in Alberta are the ones to see and they are good at knowing when you need to see a specialty and will refer to you then.
