Today is one of those days it seems, when it just feels like a Friday! And won't you know it, it is indeed, Friday! A TV character, Jack Webb(from Dragnet), comes to mind, he is best remembered for his famous line " Just the facts, ma'am, just the facts". His name was,  Joe Friday, a coincidence you say, I think not.

Endocrinologist comes from the Greek words 'endon' or 'endo' (within or inside) and 'krinein' or 'krine' (to function, separate, or secrete).  And at @sandrewn's post explains what the endocrine system is and what it's function is.

The endocrine glands are called ductless glands, and their etymorlogy (word origin) comes from 'endo' (within or inside) and  'krine' (separate or secrete), that's because various glands secrete hormones into the bloodstream.  Those include the pituitary, thyroid, adrenals, hypothalamus, and ovaries.  The term endocrine was coined by Ernest Henry Starling (1866-1927) to differentiate between hormones secreted internally from those secreted externally.  This merely capsulizes some of the things in @sandrewn's post, while also adding the name of the person first using the term endocrine.
