I think we know what a museum is now, but its origin starts with the Greek “mousa” meaning “muse”. The “seat of the Muses” or where they met was the Greek “mouseion”.

The Great Library of Alexandria, which was tragically destroyed in a fire, was part of a mouseion.

Museum enters English in the early 17th century.

So there we have it. Museum started of as place where people could reflect, discuss and learn and is now more commonly a building in which objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural interest are stored and exhibited. However, we should still reflect, discuss and learn whenever we visit a museum.

It is a bit embarrassing, I have only been to two(2) museums in my life.

 

In grade six students  of the Montreal Protestant  School board of Montreal ended the school year with a trip to the Redpath museum in Montreal.

In  February of 1976, while on UN leave (10 days), my two friends and I visited the Imperial War museum in london. Young soldiers on leave in London, not a big surprise.

A (not so little to me) side note. We were staying at the Union Jack Club, having a beer or three at the bar. A colonel, stopped by and asked if we would like to meet Queen Elizabeth II. Who was officially opening the club in one hour. The rest as they is history. We changed into uniform. She came to our table, spoke to each of us about our UN duties, where we lived( wow, a 15 min. personal meeting with her Majesty).

It was formally opened by the Patron-in-Chief, Queen Elizabeth II, on 12 February 1976.

Now, I can in all honesty, say with no lie. I have been to London to visit the Queen.:boy:

My Mom's house was like a museum. She collected rocks from every trip she took. This one came from Missouri, this one came from Texas, this one came from Arid-zona.... Getting rid of them would be a crime against history.  🙄

So I didn't know what the hell that was running across the screen in Myr's picture, so found out it was a baby T-Rex :P
