Retirement

After a year and a half of service as a moderator, I have decided to "retire" and devote more time to writing.

Being a moderator is stressful. It is NOT a symbol of power or prestige but rather a badge of trust and masochism: the site's powers that be must trust you and you must be a glutton for punishment. Trying to read every post on a site full of authors, potential authors, editors, poets and miscellaneous unusually bright people is exhausting.

I think that it is a good idea for a sites moderators to change from time to time. No personality should dominate and a constant flow of new blood insures against stagnation. Burned out moderators can turn cynical, crabby and mean and these are not traits that anyone wants to deal with- and something that I don't want to be or worse, become.

This site is blessed with an outstanding team of administrators and moderators and it has been a great pleasure to serve with them. Myr is an outstanding individual that has built the premier site of its kind on the net. Kitty has helped drive GA to new heights and has presided over a period of unprecedented growth. CJ, Joey, Matthew, AFriendFace and all of the others each bring unique skills, outlook and voice to the team. :worship:

As for me, I'm not going far: Just from the Admin forums to my blog. Expect to see more articles, blogs and writing from me- and new projects. :music:

Oh and I'll get to read more. :2thumbs:

See ya next time: same blog time, same blog channel,

JS ;)

eeee, I was about to send you a PM asking you. I noticed at the bottom it said Author:Jamessavik... that seemed kind of weird, since your username is usually in bright green XD.

I am gonna admit that when I saw your "Retirement" tittle the first thing I thought was you were going to leave us. But, as I was reading your blog I was relieved that you are not going anywhere. It sadden me that you are not going to be a moderator anymore :( but I am glad that we are going to have you around

more :2thumbs:

I always felt 'safe' seeing the moderator tag under your name.

Being a mod must be hard work, and like anything intensive it's best to give it a break if you're getting burnt out ... and change is always good.

Anyway, if it means you're going to write more, I'm all for it. 'The Cool Green Sea' is one of my very favourite shorts stories.

I've really enjoyed working with you on the team, James :)

I think you're right about change and definitely about burn out. I certainly don't think you were at that point, but of course you're the best gage of that and it's good that you knew before you became to exhausted :) . I only hope I can tell when it's my time to step away too.

I look forward to reading more of your work :D

take care and have an awesome day!

It's good to know you're still going to be around and about, and giving the younger folks here the benefit of your life experience.

In the meantime ... get to 2.gif ... 'cause I'm ready to :read: .

And that means that when you get back to work, I can too.
