I can't seem to find this yahoo group, much less verify that the stories on there are mine, etc. Are they not attributing them, or are they attributed and just archived? What's the e-mail address of the operator(s) for the group? If they're attributed right, they get a nice e-mail from me saying to please take them down. Not attributed gets a very nasty email.

THanks again..

Hi Dan,

Here is the group address: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HPRecycleBin/ and the email for the admin of the group: ip82@mailshack.com

silver4fire,

Hi!

I'm bornagainpenguin (iWindoze) semi-regular poster on DarkLordPotter.net and a co-administrator of the HPRecycleBin. The HPRecycleBin was created after the great purge of '05/06 when nearly every fanfic in the "DLP.net library" of reccomended fanfics disappeared from Fanfiction.net. IP82 created the group in order to share the works of several authors whose entire series of stories had disappeared, and when I proved to have copies of several others invited me to join in with him.

Since then we've pretty much had a hands off approach to uploads, the only rules being that we'd remove anything once it could be found on the author's official site or prefered archive (assuming it was being re-uploaded somewhere) and of course if the orginal author asked for it to be removed for their own reasons. I've been really busy since then and have had some internet connectivity issues (much too much to go into here) and as such haven't been as active on the yahoo group as I should. Someone uploaded your works to our group and neither myself and IP82 were aware there had been a reason for their disappearance.

Recently I checked my email and saw I'd gotten a message from "Ron" (Wolfwalker) in my email with the information you'd requested your stories be removed. I immediately emailed IP82 and removed the fics. IP82 said he'd missed the message the first time and was glad I'd seen the email. I have added your stories to the 'removed' list we keep and hopefully there will not be a repeat of this incident.

PS: Slytherin Style was actually pretty good! I really would have liked to see where you would have taken things from the point you left them off. (What? You didn't think I'd delete them without copying them over for myself to read did you? ;P) I'm hoping once you know once way or another on the book deal you'll either finish the stories or put up a thread with a summary of where you'd planned on taking the characters...

My thanks to you, Bornagainpenguin, the admins of the yahoo group, wolfwalker and everyone else. While the first studio taking a look at the script has give a 'pass' on it, their feedback was enough that I've decided to really focus more effort on selling some stories professionally. That being the case, I seroiusly doubt that I will ever post HP fanfics on the net again. Rider's Pride, the PERN fic, will be posted though for two reasons (1) It's completely written already and (2) Anne McCaffrey has established very clear guidelines on what can and cannot be done with fanfiction set in any of her worlds. Having those guidelines and conditions posted by her on her website, I feel much more comfortable with the Rider's Pride story being posted.

Now, if I ever get a full story published, or a script sold, I'm going to remember my experiences with fanfiction and you can expect to see something from me very similar to what Anne McCaffrey has done. Why? Because done right, it really helps the original author. Many of the PERN books are twenty or thirty years old (or more!), but they are still available, sitting on book shelves. From private e-mails as well as posts in these forums, it sounds like about 10-15 people have gone out and bought her books when they'd never owned a single one before.

Beyond telling a story I've long wanted to tell, in a universe I have loved for most of my life, I had always hoped that Rider's Pride would turn more people into fans of the PERN stories, and that those new readers would go out and buy Anne's books (and her son's, who has recently published a few PERN books). It's my hope that if I ever manage to get a story out there in the mainstream, that people will be interested enough to write their own stories, and to further increase the fan base...

Hi, I was wondering if it would be possible to get a copy of your HP fics? I really enjoyed reading them, they were very well written and I would not post them anywhere online.

Either way, thanks,

pointgirl
