That night John dreamed of wolves running in a pack in the forest. One, whose hair was red stopped and moved towards me and for some reason John knew it was Jacob. The wolf came up to him and licked my hand before looking for the rest of his pack but they were gone. The wolf/Jacob began howling in sorrow for something lost. John sat down next to him and patted him on his side. The wolf then turned to face me with his green eyes as if contemplating something before he started licking my face.

The prelude is just take. It sets the stage for the entire series. Does a lot of jumping around I know. While Jason and Philip were the central characters of the Centurion Cycle. In Nano Wars it is Jason's descendents who take center stage.
