Chapter One: Down in the Depths Aaron sat on the edge of the top bunk. In the room next door he could hear the shouting of the older boys. The fighting among them was becoming a daily occurrence. The younger boys didn’t know what it was about but it could not be good. Aaron couldn’t remember when he had arrived at the compound or his mother for that matter. He also had no idea of his age. Deep in the underground bunker there was nothing to mark the passing of time. His earliest memories

Chapter Sixteen The Betrayal When Zophar awoke to the sound of a series of thunderous explosions, it was to a dark room, the torches in his room extinguished. Not even able to find his armor or sword, the general walked blindly until he found the latch to his door. Pressing on it, Zophar found the door jammed. Shouting and banging on the thick oak, he tried to gain someone's attention, even if it was the enemy, hating not knowing what was happening outside. He now reg

Chapter Eleven: Flight of the Bumble Bee 17 Years after Avery’s Birth “Good morning grandma.” Avery raced down the stairs, picking up a waffle in the kitchen before heading for the front door. “You come back here young man. Where’s my good morning hug?” “Grams, I’m going to miss the bus.” He attempted to give a one hand hug. His grandmother wouldn’t stand for anything short of a full embrace. “Serves you right for sleeping in.” “I didn’t sleep a wink. I had that science proj

While busying himself setting up the computer, Steven cell phone went off. "Hello?" "Well... what did he say?" Patrick's voice said. "He hasn't given me an answer yet... we sort of got into an argument." "That's not like Dare... so that mean it has to be your fault. What did you do Steve? Did you fuck things up?" Patrick asked accusingly. "It was a slip of the tongue," Steven said weakly. "Out with it," Patrick demanded. "I used the word `shun' in front of him." "God... did I end

Interlude: After the occurrences in "The Mark", the world as we knew it ended. A plague similar to the Spanish influenza pandemic of the early 1900's struck the world. Billions died in a matter of months. The wealthier industrial nations faired better then most but their social structure collapsed. Democratic governments everywhere fell and were replaced by a two-headed dragon made up of the military and the corporations. The military rule was divided into two factions NATO and the As

Chapter Seven: Beauty and the Beast From the trimmed lawn of her country estate, Simma waited with eager ears to hear the blast of the horn signaling the end of today’s hunt. Though she feigned otherwise, she had less love for her son than the Prime Heir. I have to create a monster to kill one. Curse the stars for dealing me these cards of bitterness. While Gustav indeed took great pleasure in killing his half-brothers, Simma carried much of the blame for that. For the last eighteen ye

Chapter Ten: Never Again “We’re here.” Harry coughed, stepping out of the elevator and walking around the cold balcony until he reached a gold triangle-shaped door. Pressing his hand on a palm reader, a thick rectangular portal sunk down into the floor. Walking inside, they found themselves in a Baroque domed chamber, two men dressed in gray butler suits standing in the middle of the room around a circular table with a vase filled with red and white roses. “Look whose finally

Chapter Fourteen Chain of Command As on every morning, Zophar made his way to the cupola atop the domed roof of the Federation Council building. There, he could see the entire walled city of Sol and the water surrounding it. The sun was just peaking over the horizon but already ships from the different Federation nations were swarming toward the mouth of the harbor. In the past two weeks the enemy had tried eight times to storm the harbor and each time his Centurions h

Austin did not know how long he and Vard floated, in the Void. Time had almost no meaning there. All he knew was that it was an experience like none he had ever felt before, trapped in the act of love making, his hope being that it would sate Vard’s near unquenchable lust. One cannot stay in the Void forever, however. It will eventually spit one out, which is what happened. Austin and Vard landed in a piled heap on the same hill they had left. While Austin felt exhausted, as if he had run

Chapter Twelve True Forms Philip, face covered with black soot, walked in to find his lover wrapped in Varrus's black-feathered wings. The scene did not trigger jealousy but instead a strange calm in knowing that Jason was safe. He knew the appearance of Varrus's wings should have shocked, or at least surprised, him but his mind refused to trigger such emotion. For some time now Philip had felt uncomfortable with his body as if it was no longer his own anymore. Th

Chapter Six: For a Life Saved While Jack was fighting the battle for his life, Thaddeus was in the library, deep in his studies of Lord Fredrick’s books. It was a collection of legends dealing with the Midnight Wars. As it was a children’s book, he was sure it was not a detailed account and some of the tales were more fiction that fact. Still, he enjoyed reading the tales and legends from the age of heroes. Some, however, he enjoyed less than others. One in particular was as intriguing

Not able to pilot the airship without Austin, Joshua abandoned it, making his way towards a Guild-controlled village. There he was stopped by men in iron masks. “May we see your pass?” “My pass?” Joshua asked confused. “I take it you don’t have one.” “No, I don’t,” Joshua replied with his head bowed. “What should we do with him, sergeant?” “Well he seems harmless enough. Can you tell us where you’re from though, boy?” “The Barony of Dralor.” “But that’s…!” the private shouted. “That’s

Chapter Ten Homecoming When Jason finally beheld the walls of Qul Tos, he was amazed at what he saw. When he had left the city, for what he had believed would be forever, the walls had been broken down and the road leading into the capital empty. Now, where the Labyrinth tower once stood there was a full fortress. Smoke rose from the city, but this time it was coming from chimneys instead of burnt-out buildings. When the party came closer to the city gates, they f

"Revenge... I like it." Darren agreed as he chuckled. "So, what should we do with our picture?" "Let's see... keep it. At least I plan to... if you don't mind that is." "Sure... it doesn't bother me if you have it... it's other's that I don't know about." And that is what happened. Will had the picture framed and kept it by his bedside wherever he and Darren lived. As Darren remembered this, it became obvious to him how blind he had been. Will loved the picture so much be

Hearing a beeping sound coming from his pocket, Brian Gano reached inside and pulled out one of the few technological wonders of the outside world that he had allowed himself... a cell phone. "Hello?" "Can you here me on this tiny thing Father?" "Yes Sheriff I can," Brian sighed. "Amazing." "Save your wonderment for later. What's happened?" "You're sister is gone... that's what happened." Brian let out a d

Thanks. Right now the series is at a standstill until my beta reader finishes going through it. I hope to have more chapters up after that but it probably won't be for a while. This series will mainly be dealing with the heirs of Jason's legacy... both the good and the bad. Jason will still play a part but he won't be the main focus. Hope y'all aright with that. Take care

The Centurion Book IX From Red Sun to Blue Star
JMH commented on JMH's story chapter in The Centurion Book IX From Red Sun to Blue Star
Thanks for the great review. Right now the second cycle of the series is being reviewed by my beta reader. It will be a while those books will begin being posted but I hope to do so sometime before the end of the year. It took around three years to write all nine books. They were very much an exploration of myself as it was the characters. I hope you continue to enjoy the other series. -
Chapter Seven When in Aquanos The number of gay men in his fleet simply amazed the Admiral. He had always laughed at the stories of men turning to each other for sexual relief during long sea voyages. Now, James knew that many of the stories were true. Here in the Aquanos bathhouse, a hundred of his men had come out of hiding and were freely expressing their love for each other. At the moment, James was enjoying it himself as he and Kyle relaxed in one of the hot

Chapter Four: The Prime Heir Six thousand miles away from where Thaddeus slept, across mountains and the Middle Sea, was the Rygis Continent. There lay the Inner Provinces, the beating heart of the Empire. Along the Empire’s far eastern borders were the Mountains of the Sun. At it’s highest peak rose the Tower of High Sun. It was not the heart of the Empire, that honor belonged to the Capital, but it was the Empire’s most powerful symbol. It was also the official residence of his
