    Chapter 48

OMG I would get out my phone and start recording. We now know why Curtis Buck never picked up on Zach fooling with a guy, it was right under his nose! I wanted Will to stay at Harvard Westlake. Oh.... and Will didn't move to San Francisco, he moved to Palo Alto.

    Chapter 47

I don't like coke users. Maybe that is one reason I don't like Will. Naw, it's because I've known a half dozen Will Schluters in my life; little rich kids who think they can get away with anything they want. With Jake in their lives they should have all kinds of cool devices. Alister is still my favorite of Will's hook-ups. If the comments from that story are still around I encouraged Mr. Arbour to have this quality young man be the one that Will wound up with.

    Chapter 46

Seriously, does anyone doubt Will is an ass after this chapter? Can anyone explain the attraction to getting fucked up on drugs, shots and beer?

    Chapter 44

I think Will should be a nice person and treat people well. “There will be, as soon as I get home,” I told him, and not all that nicely. WTF, why is he flipping shit and attitude at Jake, who doesn't deserve it and is doing Will a favor. I think he treated Cody badly because he can. I also thought he was out of control with Jeff. He was a petulant little bitch. Will really is awful. He puts up with it and enables it.

    Chapter 43

Will is the one I want him by a bus.... and dragged a few hundred yards before is it able to stop. I think Will behaved like an ass. A mature person would have controlled himself and expressed disappointment and not go off in a teenage girl hissy fit. Will treated both Cody and Jeff ill. I think Will is a complete pussy and hypocrite. Zach forces Will to do all kinds of things and only sees or talks to Will on his own terms, never Wills. Will would never tolerate that from anyone else.

    Chapter 41

Will and Darius can casually let her know about JJ's circumstances and do it so JJ never knows. It is a small world because people travel in small circles, be it Hollywood or tennis or the dog show set. The circles often intersect, but that is how your circle expands. For a change? He's had 58 lovers and he isn't 17 yet. Do they still own both condos in the Colony? Be surprising if Cam lived close by. I like JJ far better than I like Will. I do think Mark has let JJ's character get a little too far down the diva track. I hope he returns to the sweeter kid he was in earlier books. There are time to let things go and times to intervene. This is a time to intervene and without JJ knowing, if possible. If there is a stuck up, pompous punk ass bitch, who needs to be taken down a few pegs and knocked off the pedestal he places himself on, it is Will.

    Chapter 40

“I was,” I said, then told him all about my visit, and how awesome Maddy was. Maddy was his daughter and my half-sister. Man is this family fucked up ha ha.. "he's my brother, my cousin and my uncle...." So many names from the past, Alex, Jeff Grimes, Cody & Kevin..... it's been a long time since the story has been So Cal focused.

    Chapter 74

I am still back on Chapter 39, but catching up. I know that 2014 to 2020 are a long ways off but nothing was more amusing to me in that era in SF than Gypsy Taub and her activism in Berkeley and SF for the cause of natural drugs (psychedelics - weed, peyote & mushrooms) and Body Freedom (read being naked in the Castro) - Nude Summer of Love Parade San Francisco 2016 Perhaps there could be some interesting storylines.

    Chapter 39

“I can keep my mouth shut,” I said. - Not if there is hard dick within 20 feet... I feel more for Zach who can't be who he is openly. He also doesn't have obnoxious wealth to fall back on should his plans get derailed. I don't get why Will is going to Harvard other than ego and to impress people. He'd be much happier at USC or UCSD majoring in Marine Science & Environment getting ready to confront the problems of the worlds reefs. Its not too late Mr. Arbour. Think of Will surfing every day at Black's Beach (nude beach just below UCSD) and what adventures would result from that. The NFL will be easier for gay players when Tom Brady finally comes out and he and Aaron Rodgers proclaim their love for each other. Sorry Gisele, you just weren't enough.

    Chapter 38

A trusts restrictive covenants are the right of the person creating the trust. Almost every trust I do for very wealthy people creating trusts for their children involves markers, age or accomplishments. The most common markers of age are 18, 25 and 30. I don't recall any as late as 50. As to accomplishments, college graduation, marriage, birth of first child, are among the more common ones. Wealthy parents and grandparents do worry that giving too much money too soon will ruin kids and in a lot of cases, they are correct. The dilemma is always on one hand wanting to provide for loved ones and making sure they are cared for versus the other hand of wanting them to develop some of the drive and ambition that they had that made them wealthy to begin with. I was thinking more of Jake doing pro bono work, maybe focus on homeless vets, vets denied benefits, etc. The family could easily set up a non-profit law office for Jake with a small staff.

    Chapter 37

“I think they think their actions and opinions matter more to me and my cousins than they do,” I said. “Way more.” I don't think it is a case of mattering more, but having more life experience and already made some of those painful mistakes and want to spare their kids pain. If someone said, 'I think I'm going to put my hand on that hot stove' and you said 'I think that is a bad idea', does your opinion matter more, or is it just more informed on the consequences of putting your hand on a hot stove? “After I read Mike’s report, I didn’t think that mattered,” I said. “I guess I didn’t have confidence in their judgment, so I made the decision based on the grant request.” Will doesn't have confidence in their judgment without knowing why they made the decision? That seems pretty messed up. But we don't know why the grant was turned down. Lots of worthy proposals that fit within the funding priorities of a foundation get turned down because there is only so much money to go around. If 500 proposals were submitted and you only have the funds to cover 50, a lot of worthy, deserving, eligible proposals will be turned down. I think you either believe in your staff or you do not. JP was right that the Board's job is oversight, not management. If the Board is going to take over the grantmaking process, then you do not need a staff. Yes you can deny it. Mike wouldn't have seen all the grant requests, he might have seen the final grantees, but he would not have been privy to the deliberations on who was given a grant and who was not and why.

    Chapter 36

They are overplayed sometimes, but they are also a shortcut. If you had to present three or four individual family dinners and show how what happened at each got communicated, it could consume several chapters. No, but he isn't swearing off family money and striking out on his own and be independent, he wants his cake and wants to eat it too. Before he goes off at a foundation meeting, Will should evaluate his lifestyle and think about how the money spent on his car, planes, homes in Maui and Malibu, wardrobe, etc could be put to better uses. There are mistakes and then there MISTAKES. Didn't Claire have a twin brother, Billy? Smoking pot and even ecstasy, is one thing; cocaine, LSD, and pills take it to another level and if John is supplying friends, he opens himself to trafficking charges. The Menlo School is $55,000 a year tuition, you bet I am riding my kids to keep them focused. Jack, as a doctor, sees the smashed up kids who make "mistakes". He's probably had to pull the sheet over a few of them. I am sure he went to the lobby and told the anxious parents, "well kids make mistakes you know". Mature? "I'm throwing away several years of a top flight education to join a boy band that might or might not make it, oh and I am flying to Malibu to go party, drink and do more drugs." But not full independence, he is still going to be sucking off the family teat. He's not becoming Saint Francis of Assisi exactly. When your children become teens and they start driving, it is very easy to become stuffy.

    Chapter 35

There are good charities and bad charities. Some charities hide what should be administrative expenses in their program expenses. Instead of spending money on a homeless shelter in their End Homelessness initiative, they are sending board members or program staff to a symposium on how to end homelessness in Palm Desert in January, and so on. The charitable foundation world can be a huge scam while being 100% legal. It would not be unusual for a foundation to have office space in the corporate building. The massive Coca-Cola Foundation, for example, is at One Coca-Cola Plaza in Atlanta.

    Chapter 32

Surely the beach house must have a lockdown feature on the gate so it won't open. I don't even know where to begin with Brad and Jake. I've been busting Will's balls on his maturity level, but B&J are over the top, take the cake. I hope we are done with the drug crap. I absolutely hate drugs.

    Thems some fucked up dewds.

    Chapter 30

It makes no sense at all. Adults should be able to have rational conversations without going off on a meth binge. I get that Jake would like to remove the stain on his name, but he is in a different commitment now. The honorable thing to do is honor that commitment. The rational thing would have been to involve the family (meaning Stef & JP) in what was on the table and talk things out. Of course that it dull. Brad was too nice. I would have chained the little bastard to a radiator.

    Chapter 29

Gawd I love gay marriage. Why should breeders have all that misery just for themselves! Thank goodness for pre-nups. Yeah something happened. Brad married a guy after not knowing him long enough and way, way, WAY too soon after Robbie's death. That should have been obvious to everyone.

    Chapter 28

PS Facebook moves to Palo Alto four months after this.

    Chapter 28

Brad needs a lesson in manners? How about this: “You two are total dorks,” I said rather meanly. Susannah looked offended, while JJ got all pissed off. Stef was trying to hide a grin, probably because he was irritated with their games as well." Good manners dictates you allow people their space; live and let live, not 'my way of the highway'. Will only has two brothers, why go out of your way to antagonize one of them. The rich (Silicon Valley types, movie stars, scions of wealth) don't have to move. The added costs of living in CA have zero effect on their lifestyles. People who cannot structure their payouts, golfers like Leftie and Tiger, have left for no income tax states. When you win a major, CA is there with its hand out asking for 13% or over $400,000, if you happen to have won the masters. Will will not regret his association with Peter Thiel, the man who gave him the opportunity to become a billionaire, unless Will buys into this bullshit notion that you only associate with people who believe the same thing as you and demonize those with a different view of life.

    Chapter 27

Peter Theil is an amazing man who believes in individual freedom, recognizes the dangers of Marxism and totalitarianism and believes in American Exceptionalism without qualification. It won't be for awhile. I don't think FB goes public for 8 more years. when I first joined you had to be a college student (in theory) and I was able to join because I still had a berkeley.edu email address. Uh, Mr. Arbour might have whispered to Will that this could be a good deal.

    Chapter 26

Will and Patrick are in very different stages of life. There is no immediate future for them. I thought Patrick was going to pay Will for the house and then Will was going to deed it over to Johnny? I would not be surprised if the princeling winds up working for Stef and we see more of him.
  22. PrivateTim

    Chapter 25

No where has Will's inner monologue mused on Connie, sent Connie a text, or any such thing. Meh, Alabamans have brought much of the grief they get on themselves.
  23. PrivateTim

    Chapter 25

Seriously? The quote below is why I'll be rooting for the shark in a Will - shark encounter. "I sat on the bed, pretty freaked out by all of this, and not least by Patrick just blowing me off. I mean, I’d jumped in and solved this major issue with Johnny that could have destroyed his career, I’d spent my morning working on his show which would have been way shittier if I hadn’t. Shit, wasn’t that at least worth a fuck? I guess it was all about him." That final line is said without any introspection or self awareness. You don't do nice things for people expecting a quid pro quo. A better, more mature person would have heard the pain Patrick was in and known that was NOT the time to worry about his own wants. You do nice things for people, especially those you love, because you want the best for them and thoughts of self do not enter in at all. Love is to will the good of the other, not yourself.

    Chapter 24

I was worried for a bit. I don't think Will had sex for three straight chapters, but he quickly made up for it by three sexual encounters in a 24-48 hour period. Oh... and I've decided John should go to USC. He'd get there in time for a national championship or two, a couple of Heisman's and he'd be able to get in with a high B average and billionaire family members.

    Chapter 23

Never been a MOMA fan. When I was a kid/teen we'd stay at The Stanhope, directly across from the Met and that was much more to my liking. I get why Brad does it, OCD goes hand in hand with Control Freaks like Brad. He KNOWS better than to call Will at 2AM, give him crap, then call back and call back when Will hangs up on him, but he simply cannot help himself. His brain would explode if he didn't.
