    Cane

Cane I wanted a lick of sugar, but daddy said I'd been naughty. good girls refrain from direct sun- light and speak when spoken to, Never eat until they're full or play with the boys all alone. but daddy got the lessons wrong he picked a sugar cane too sweet and the lessons got me all wrong too sweet, and it never fills me up.

This is a rather dark narrative poem about an abused child.
  4. The most important things I look for in a partner are a sharp mind and a quick wit. If someone is both clever enough to keep up with me and their eyes don't glaze over when I talk about my views on the functionality of recessive alleles in heterozygous genes, I can look over most other shortcomings. I also look for my partner to be ambitious. I could care less about how much money they make, or are going to make, I just prefer to be with someone similar to myself in that they are constantly struggling to better themselves in order to reach their goals. I'm anti-consumerist, so I could care less about pretty knick knacks, but I do appreciate a partner who's willing to take the time to use their talents to make something original. I had one boyfriend that would write me erotic poetry, and that was...certainly appreciated Being in good enough shape to keep up with me when running or swimming wouldn't hurt their chances either.
  5. I'm a little new here, but I figure there's little harm in giving a face to put to my future activities. I don't always dress that....interesting, but that is the only thing I have that is sort of a head shot. : P Here's something a little more recent
  6. When I came out no one actually believed me. I live in an area where gay men are expected to be perfect molds of the stereotype, and often are. I'm tall, athletic and mild mannered, so there's no way I could be gay as those people are slim, short and flamboyant. I'd like to be able to say "be yourself, it'll all work out for the best" but I can't do that in good conscience if I don't know where you live. Canada is one the countries more forgiving to gay relationships, but even still not very far from me a gay couple was recently burned out of their home while they were inside sleeping. It isn't fair for you to have to hide any part of your identity, and I'm not saying that you do. Only you know your situation well enough to be the judge of who you should or shouldn't tell. If you are at all concerned, you could perhaps first talk to someone you know not to be homophobic, or someone who has an implicit confidentiality agreement (a councilor, a student adviser, a doctor, etc.). and ask for their advice.
  7. I love ties, and wear them as often as I can reasonably get away with dressing up. I would do so more often if my bank account hadn't been mortally wounded by my student credit. : P
  8. I'm not going to insult you by reminding you it's all about confidence. This is something that has been told to you thousands of times by now, I'm sure. My advice, however, is to remind you that confidence can be keyed up. Instead of agonizing over whether or not they are going to say yes, think about what kind of date you'd like to go on. If you find it hard to speak, or you find your voice quivering a bit, it's helpful to break the tension with a joke. Keeping good posture of course always helps, and remember to smile (I've heard a lot of silliness about people not liking their smiles, but it isn't about showing off your teeth as much as it is about showing that you're an upbeat and fun person).
