Great read! Good thing D'gar never said anything about telling R'feem all of this. Whew! The way Lessa is... Um, 'Off With His Head' would have been a mild reaction by her!

I agree with that. It's still necessary to keep S'fyn's identity secret. It's a fine line to say just enough, without going over the cliff. Should F'drun discover he has a spy and who that spy is, well, 'greens die everyday', even if it happens to be a bronze.

After what S'fyn has told D'gar, it really surprises me that he hasn't realized who the practice target is. Yeah, yeah, he has a lot on his mind... I gotta stop reading these comments!

Yes, D'gar should take the position. I also hope nothing happens to S'fyn. Since H'rek is going back to Southern and Rioth will likely mate there, D'gar really needs to tell him of the threat. <-- [This is me being paranoid]

Being weyrbred, it just never occured to me that a rider could have such extreme homophobia. I mean, look at M'rell. He prefers women but takes it in stride when Toth mates with a green. That, I figured was more the norm. I suppose anything is possible, even in Pern society.

Hmm, I think the word you were looking for was, paranoid! Whatever else we can say about F'drun, he certainly knows how to get under the skin of his victims.

I'm almost positive that Lessa will let F'lar know where the idea came from and it will be brought up at the next Wingleaders meeting. R'gul will be spitting bricks! I've become quite partial to that idea, myself! This is what will make D'gar a good Wingleader. His memory and ability to instantly analyze the situation.

Like it or not, H'rek is not weyrborn. Add to this that because of the long intravel things operate differently. Thus he is immature and more pron not to understand D'gar and to listen to his clutchmates, perhaps more than he should. D'gar had better start realizing and remembering this. They are both at fault. Another possible impediment I see, is if H'rek had sex with the bronze guy. D'gar may have a hard time with this... Or not. F'nor did everything right, as Clancy stated. Now add to this that F'nor will go back and talk to F'lar about how this all went down. That is going to give a huge boost to at least D'gar's credibility, if not all of the 'old timers'.

So, H'rek spent the night with a comely Bronze rider. Now we're left with D'gar getting drunk with N'bras... I so like the way you left this chapter, Mawgrim. Lot's of ways that green monster can pop-up! LOL.

Given the symptoms of D'gar's shoulder, it could well be a stretched ligament/tendon. Which, while not as bad as a tear, is just as bad in the pain department. Takes longer to heal and is never quite the same afterwards. Of course, since they have no surgeons on Pern, a tear would never heal properly and would sideline D'gar forever. So let's hope it was just a bruise. Both the holders and Benden Weyr have become accustomed to not having threadfall. It is always hard to change things when confronted by what you thought would never come again. We change our surroundings to suit us. Our nature doesn't change readily.

It is often the case, even in the real world, sadly. We don't know how the man treats the wife, but I'd wager she isn't treated the same as before he found out his brother fathered the child.

I certainly hope so. Up to the last chapter or so, M'rell has always got on with D'gar. Last I remember, he really didn't want the position until the changes came when the wing went to Benden.

I know everything has already been written and I have yet to read it, but... F'drun needs to be taken down hard before someone gets seriously injured or worse. Demoting that type of man will do nothing to prevent the inevitable.

Has anyone considered that F'drun might just be S'brim, had he been a Bronze rider and given power? At least, I see the same self-centered persona in both.

I agree with everyone saying who will get the blame for Choliarth and C'don and who will do the blaming. Mawgrim, your threadfall scene is done with the same skill as you have done in your later stories. As I read, I can visually see, in my minds eye, what is happening. Wonderful!

After all the comments about F'drun in the 'Threadfall' story, it only took that one scene to get the mettle of the , ahem, man. Bad decision that. Out of D'gar or M'rell, both of whom had been de facto wingseconds for almost the entirety of the last Fall, R'feem knows he can trust and count on D'gar. Regardless of who or what the 'new guys' were, R'feem doesn't know them from Adam. Add to that, two new (and untested - in this wing) wingseconds into an existing wing... well, I can only see chaos at this point.

I would have said that none of Benden's riders are really experienced. While I still have hopes for J'rud, I like H'rek. I'm just hoping that D'gar finally opens up and comes to grip with his past.
