    Someone is on the bus. The guy beside them fidgets the whole time with an irritating tinkling bangle while telling them, it seems, their entire life story, including very personal things. It’s time to pop in the earbuds.
    When it’s time to get off the bus, the talker has disappeared and the strange bangle is now on their wrist. They instantly turn around and tell the lady walking behind them about their super-hot new colleague. WTF?

    Your story’s main character comes home from a long work stay abroad. The usually extremely reserved neighbor on the left waves at them and invites them for welcome-back coffee on their porch. Instead of a yellow dried-out lawn, the backyard is now a dazzling sea of colorful flowers. Asked about how their newly-developed green thumb, the neighbor smiles and explains the merits of biological fertilizers, versus chemical ones.

    Bad Words

    You know exactly which words I mean: *@%#*,*@%#*, and oh yes, that too.

    We avoid those in polite company or when little ones are around, but sometimes it’s very difficult not to use them. Fortunately, there are several proven methods to work around the problem.

    Your main character’s sister visits with her five and three-year-old kids. She is famous for her creativity in avoiding bad words. Write an epic rant about her new boss. (Without using bad words of course.)

    Someone negotiates with an important albeit infuriating person. Perfect control is essential. And again, no bad words, loud gnashing teeth, growling, or extensive breathing.

    Under My Skin: A mage with lightning ability goes head to head with a rival mage with an affinity for wind. But, when they are both chosen to train under the master mage, they are forced to work together. As they begin to get underneath one another's skin, the more the master mage seems pleased with the development. Why does it feel like he's instigating them on purpose?

    Would people read stories that take place in a foreign country? How difficult is it to write these kinds of stories and still find readers on an international site like GA? Does an American want to read a story about characters falling in love in Denmark?
    On the other hand, what do we have to do to write a story taking place away from home, like space or for example, China, India, Africa, or wherever your muse takes you?

    Holiday Hazard: The protagonist drank too much spiked eggnog while staying with his family over the holidays. His younger cousins somehow manage to convince him to go with them to a Winter-themed amusement park even though he has a hangover. There at the amusement park, he finds someone he manages to get along with more than anyone else he'd ever come across. They end up holding hands even while riding roller coasters. Where does their instant chemistry land them?

    Chocoholics Anonymous: The chocolate shortage in his hometown is the protagonist's biggest living nightmare, especially when he requires the most authentically dark chocolate for his special pastry recipe. His family expects him to bring that pastry with him as one of their favorite holiday traditions to go along with his sibling's infamous hot chocolate and put them all into a chocolate-induced coma. Only a mom and pop shop three hours away has any of that dark chocolate in stock. But, by the time he arrives, he sees the shop owner ready to close up! What does he do, promise, or say to convince the shop owner to allow him to buy that chocolate after hours?
