I'm thrilled to hear this hit so many real notes. I imagined how it would happen, but wasn't aware of how common finding help in others they may not like comes into play. I didn't want to leave Alice in a state of victimhood, so spent a fair amount of time figuring out the most believable method of escape.

Alice stared out the kitchen window at the disk of pale brightness in the night sky. I couldn't resist the tea thing. With Jimmy having a Creole background it made sense to throw in a few other cultural preferences besides simply the food his maman taught him to make.

I do work really hard to keep the story flowing. The last thing I want is for the read to drag and risk anyone losing interest.

Unfortunately we need to move on. There's plenty more we need to get to while extending this scene might be fun, I couldn't figure out what narrative purpose it would serve to keep the story moving forward. Sacrificed must be made for our art.

Thank you for reading! I needed Jimmy to make his position clear with being a total prick. I'm not sure I'd have had his restraint under the same circumstances.

We've all met people who think they know best and rationalize reasons to treat people poorly. Maddie definitely falls into that category. It also looks like she has little practice with someone who she can't outright dominate. Hopefully the new experience does her some good.

Jimmy and Maddie both have boundary issues with regards to Sawyer, but they each go about it in different ways. We'll see what happens in the future.

I'm just afraid at some point one of you will get it right enough I won't be able to respond which will put me in serious spoiler territory. And I hate spoilers. You all get to analyze the story from week to week in a way an ebook reader usually wouldn't. It give this group a better chance to predict plot points than most people, so those comments I'm going to acknowledge and sit back with my popcorn while the crazy flies around in the discussion. LOL

The fact is, she doesn't have to lose. It's just a fight that might not be worth winning for what it could do to her relationship with Sawyer. Let's hope she can learn.

It was tricky not to have Jimmy get all righteous and try shaming her into non-existence, because in reality, people tend to dig in their heels and ignore the truth when you nuke them with their own failures.
