  1. Sly - i like your honesty, a lot of the kids said that too. i was surprised at the number who wanted to know a bit more of the ins and outs before they would make their decision, because being townie kids, they have basically no experience of life in the wild world. they all think i'm some strange sort of creature for living in the middle of nowhere.
  2. you may add me to the list. many of my skills are already covered, so i'll list the more obscure ones. Wolves and canine behaviour. Food. jewellery and silversmithing. gutting and skinning.
  3. I teach Design and Technology and Food Technology at a secondary school. One of the lessons i run for my year 8 (12 year old) students is about Ethical Meat and the welfare of the animals we consume. At the end of the lesson after several activities, videos, discussions and looks at both sides of the arguments of why people do/don't eat meat and many interesting debates on whether or not we should feel guilty for eating meat we have one final question. Would you rather kill all the meat you'll ever eat for the rest of your life, or be a vegetarian forever? and while all my students know that i do kill and butcher my own game meat on a regular basis, i liaised with our ethics teacher (vegetarian Buddist) to make sure the lesson is presented from both sides. the arguments are presented as unbiased as is possible. i don't want them to be vegetarian or to be inveterate meat eaters, i just want them to be conscious of and responsible for whichever choice they make.

  11. don't you know that margarine is basically plastic? Fun Margarine facts: Originally invented to fatten Turkeys, margarine in naturally grey. when all the turkey's died from lack of nutrients, they added yellow food colouring to make the product into a butter substitute. the only good thing sin margarine are vitA and vitD which have to be added by law because it contains so little else which is good for you. if you leave margarine out on a hot sunny day, it will not go rancid, also, nothing will eat it. flies will not land on it, no animal (inc rats) will nibble it. the chemical structure of margarine is only one molecule different from plastic. see they must be fun, they're in colours.

  20. my husbands family have a better christmas than my blood-family do, so guess where we end up? He's one of four kids, their lounge is big enough that they each have their own sofa (the cat has an armchair) and as children these used to be covered in presents. his dad cooks, my mother-in-law makes the gravy. I started a new tradition (they have to come from somewhere) the year we first moved out of home, in that each each i now create some kind of ridiculous gingerbread structure which Cris's older brother demolishes somewhere inside half an hour. last year we have house with steepled roof and tower, stained glass windows and reindeer on the roof. might try a stables this year, but still not sure. and running out of time to plan it!!!
  21. what? Wolverine managed to pull of the yellow and blue look. of course, his was fitted spandex...
