The way she embraces them as family is touching without feeling forced, and her dialogue remains consistently entertaining. The revelation of Albert's arrest provides a powerful payoff after everything readers have learned about him. What makes the scene work is August's reaction. He is shocked that his father was finally caught, but not surprised by the crimes themselves, which feels completely believable given his experiences. The conversation between August and Fletcher afterward is emotional and mature, reinforcing how much August has grown and how important Fletcher is as his source of comfort and strength.
