  1. Thanks Raven! I remember the pic from researching before my vision got too bad, so I'm happy others can see it now too. Next fragment coming up soon.
  2. Thanks, Ivor! I have to say these 'fragments' are easier to put together than Jay's chapters. I didn't quite reach my desired endpoint with seeing Matthias, but I had already passed my usual length for this story's entries....
  3. Fragment 15: Relativity When Harman and Silver Eagle entered the pod, it took only a moment to survey the interior. Four comfortable seats faced the front of the rectangular space where a door led into what was likely a control center fully automated and integrated with Luna’s Traffic Computer. A second door was located in the rear wall, and revealed a space on the left for preparing small meals, and on the right a washroom. A voice in their implants suggested they take sea
  4. Thanks, I couldn't remember C'gan's name... I seem to remember from the original series that either Mnementh or Ramoth said that Master Robinton could have been a dragonrider, but with the Interval and opportunity, he opted for a career where he could do far more than the average Master....
  5. Of course Kadin can be both a Harper and a dragonrider, just wonder what other skills Jevikel might have... I'm glad J'rud has found someone to bond with, he deserves happiness.

    Justice

A wonderful story with an untimely ending--one more chapter with the glimpse at our heroes future would have been nice, especially if the boys inherited Cynthia's house, or moved in with her before that. The parallel between Jack and Terry's stories occurred to me a few moments ago as I was pondering what to write; each pair had one who could see what was coming, and one who couldn't or wouldn't listen...sadly that disregard cost both Trevor and Jack their lives, but at least Terry survived the loss of Cliff. Luckily, second time around, Terry found someone sympathetic with his 'feelings' and both live on to grow old together. Great use of the Tarot cards for each chapter!

    Chapter 1

Come on, Mawgrim...do it for us! I love that you've named the new king Adelbert because that means a lot to me; in the mid 70s, my father took me to see some family history going back to his greatgrandfather who came over from Germany in 1841. Saw the Victorian house he built, and have an old pic of it from 1914 with a Model T parked in the yard. He also showed me where family were buried, in a small treed cemetery near Cardington OH and one in Marion where his brother lies who died of diphtheria at age three around 1917...his name was Adelbert, and I have a memorial card about him with a lovely poem hanging on my living room wall. Some of that history can be found in my short prompt Family Decisions. The house picture is in my GA picture gallery if you want to see it--it's what I envision as Jay's house for my Jay & Miles book.

    TV Trivia

Haha, you've been converted, my dear G-Man! As a teen I remember Alistair Cooke's Masterpiece Theater was a shining light for late night television, except Friday nights when Jerry Beck showed four movies after midnight...that's where I fell in love with bad science-fiction like Rocky Jones and Gorgo, the Scottish Godzilla. MP was where I first saw Upstairs, Downstairs, though it took years to appreciate it, and the Miss Marple series that was on every week, and it was where I also saw The Naked Civil Servant, I think with Johnathan Hurt? I remember they showed that one rather late and only twice as it dealt with a gay character. OH--I fixed the edit you emailed me about....

Hey Geron! It's so neat to see you hanging out at the boys' pad again. Oh, it took some reading to refresh myself, but that was mostly facts rather than the mood or scene, as I still listen to the music and shows from those years rather than current music groups. Okay, there is some New Wave I like, but nothing beyond that, and as for tv, other than documentaries, I stick with more than a few old standbys and period pieces like Downton Abbey, or occasionally Big Bang Theory. Next one will be a lot sooner, and I'm working on a new Tales chapter even now. Glad you're back, now to round up Timothy M!

    Confirmation

A lot to think about here: dragon colors, the new weyrling master, not to mention being on the Hatching Ground itself when the time comes. And of course, Jevikel having to remember his nephew's name... I like what we've heard about Kemi's mate so far...and hope he shows up in person soon. Rooting for both our heroes to get blues or better, but as you say, 'it's the dragon who chooses'.
  11. DeathRace 2000 stands out as such a classic! What would I have given to have seen that film in the drive inn + Mechagodzilla in one night. Awesome! Such a huge screen, it would have been amazing! I'm not sure I saw it there, or on tape later or tv first. I did definitely see the original Wicker Man and sadly, Deliverance at the drive-in....WM was, and still is an astonishing film, but make sure it's the British Lion longest cut rather than that crappy remake set in New England. Lets hope they never try to remake DR2K!

    TV Trivia

I'm sure you enjoyed Gary's excerpt that gave the origins of Kevin and Bill, and I can only imagine the effort it took to do that; I had to go back and read more than a few chapters to track down some things I'd forgotten, especially since I'd left Bill entirely out of the Players Description in the Forum linked from the cover page! I've added it in my own copy since it's a text file, but not sure it's worth doing it onsite...wanna vote on it, guys? In brief, Kevin is there, so Bill is an inch or so shorter, some fifteen pounds lighter and is 16 rather than 17 like the other boys. He has dark brown hair and blue eyes. He is from a suburb of Columbus' east side, and Route 40 is their Main Street, so it's an easy trip out to the wilds of the next county eastward... Thanks for jumping back into my recollections, it's very much appreciated.

Thanks Ivor, I'm glad you weren't too lost with the long interval between this and the previous chapter. I tried mentioning something that would bring back some memories of each person, so at least readers had a clue. I know our schools and culture from back then are very different from what you knew in England, so I hope it made some sort of sense as it went along.... Thanks for sticking around, mate!

    TV Trivia

Thanks, G-Man! And a big hug for figuring out the spacing issue too. I wasn't sure this had posted as I wasn't sure how to change the story status until about an hour ago--it asked if I wanted to save the chapter, which made me uncertain if it was there; when I went to the front page, I saw it, but wasn't sure it was there for everybody to see, then I lost my entire online/cable/phone service due to problems with the new company who bought out my old one. Just got it back two hours ago, and this was the first thing I checked on, discovering I hadn't checked the box for status changes since I missed it by mousing, but it was mentioned in the narrator. OH--and love you tons for giving the readers a refresher on where Bill and Kevin came from--I only said his father was Jack's brother and left out any other mention...sorry guys! xoxoxoxoxo my dear friend.

    TV Trivia

POV: Henry, Mikey, Kevin “So, what time do you want to start on Jay’s truck tomorrow, Dirck?” I’d heaved a sigh of relief once Mikey had handed the phone back to Jay’s father. Miles had acquired one trait from Anne I tried to break him of without result: he was a worrier. Sure, my episode yesterday with the emergency squad gave him some reason, but only I knew how I felt, and it didn’t seem like a serious problem to me. “Are you sure you feel up to it?” Dir

    First Days

I hate laundry too, and hope they get some other jobs to try soon. It would be nice if Kadin could entertain sometimes, or perhaps help with weyrlings in future. Jevikel could be good at organizing supplies or something until they Impress. I just have this feeling that you're going to end this book on the Hatching Ground when they bond with their dragons...

    Reunited

So we have two riders so far from the past, one from Igen and the other from High Reaches, and a more stern D'gar from Fort...I'm not sure how old the others are, so perhaps it's only the older generation of Old Timers who are so out of step with modern Pern? Of course, it's early days yet, so perhaps the new circumstances haven't had a chance to affect all the others yet? Eager for Jevikel and Kadin to get on the Hatching Ground and see what happens!
  18. Nice to see Kemi again, and most of the Benden people seem nice, but even now there is some unease with the Old Timers from the past....T'rai is a good sort, so generalizations need to be kept in check for now. One thing though, I'm not sure I like Nursheldor much...might be a potential bully in the works. Glad to hear that Relth's opinions about candidates seems to be held in high regard, so Jevikel and Kadin ought to have a good chance to Impress.

    Chapter 3

I was wondering where Sami and his family fit into things...I hope he's not been abandoned, but if so, then who will become his new guardian angel? Want to wager it'll wind up being Angelo and Gianni? Don't know how Italian law would see it, but I'd doubt two gay men could adopt, so perhaps even guardianship is impossible?

    Chapter 2

Dani has always struck me as a sort of tragic character, not exactly fitting in anywhere, and seemingly destined to be alone. He differs from Marco in that he is a bit better at hiding his inner turmoil from others, unless he makes an effort to give them a peek inside. The books? From Gianni's reaction, I think they must be some private diaries Marina kept, or perhaps those of her daughters? She wouldn't share that aspect of her life with anyone because it no longer fit with her image in later life...perhaps these contained her true thoughts on her family and world that she felt should be kept to herself? Heck, maybe she had a flair for writing and just couldn't give it up as a vital part of her life even if she didn't do it much anymore....
  21. Okay, confusion here. It's been a while since I read Hammerhead, but I was under the impression it was unfinished and been abandoned? It may be difficult for the various nationalities to trust one another at first, but consider: they were all facing death, and this is a way out, and being young their minds may not be so rigidly locked into their society's goals when faced with an entirely new world to learn about...it's one thing to fight amongst themselves, but when faced by a serious external threat, their goal would likely be to put this enemy first, then see what happens after that. One other thing: can we get longer chapters, James?
  22. ColumbusGuy

    Incursions

I'm in! James does these stories very well, and ties the cast of teens into conflict situations with a masterful touch. I can think of one author whose future space wars remind me of this theme, but he deals with adults and a naval tradition transferred into an Earth battling alien invaders who have a hive mind rather than individual intellects...been some time, but I think it was David Weber and used a system of 'gates' to travel the galaxy in a series of jumps. Loved your Eagle Rock story involving teens in surviving an attack on US allies in the Pacific by the Chinese....

    The Tithe Road

I'm glad they got to Benden Weyr safely, but then we knew they would...and it has occurred to me that, despite the coverage in Anne's books, we have only really known the names of the more important riders from each Hatching, so we still have more than a few dragonets whose riders we haven't heard of from Ramoth's early clutches. Now, I think we know all the queen's riders, so perhaps Kemi won't get one, yet be happy as a worker, or a mate to a dragonrider rather than become one herself? Considering this, I really hope Jevikel and Kadin do better than a green....
  24. I'm in a quandary here: we have the hint that Jevikel and Kadin reach the weyr being rescued, and Kemi already reached it--but with the Benden Hatchings being covered in the books, how can any of them be Impressed? Seems Kemi won't Impress a queen of any sort, and the boys must be relegated to greens or blues at most.... I want the boys to become dragonriders so much, so I'm keeping good thoughts aimed at you, Mawgrim!

    Eight of Swords

I'm not sure about the later stages of Alzheimers as my stepfather was put into care by his daughter once my mother died, so I didn't see him again, but up to her funeral, he was mostly quiet and said little, which was a drastic turn from his previous voluble and jocular self. I assume that Maurice might not be in as much danger as Brenda fears with his declining sanity, and to do anything to him now would draw attention to things best left alone. It looks like things might be pointing to Colin as one of the killers, unless I'm doing cat things like jumping to conclusions.
