I'll have to check what's on Prime vs YouTube. Thanks for the heads-up.
-
I went with the head-banging idea in hopes of seeing blood!
-
Thanks. And the wait's not bad; hang in there.

I like that chapter. It's far from being perfect but I think it accomplished my goal well. I wanted to recap some of what CJ had done and set things up for his start at Georgetown. I structured it so we would follow him through the day as scenes alternated phone calls with personal interactions. Of course I had to start with family. Brett, Cesar, Ritch, and Owen are the base upon which CJ builds his life.

Anyone who invokes John Lewis is more than fine in my book. The fact you also reflect the attitude I've tried to infuse CJ with is icing on the cake. You and him both aim to do what's right even if at times it may be uncomfortable. Right now Northman's an annoying gnat and Domogarov's the big bad bear lumbering around. I need to dispose of one of them sometime soon. You keep fighting for what you believe in.
-
@Anton_Cloche CJ's been mature and professional in his dealings with Northman until this chapter. There's now a crack and it could expand if the man keeps needling CJ. I'm hoping others can calm him sufficiently so he doesn't go all Ninja on his boss. I think with people like that it's sometimes better to go around them than through them. Maybe CJ will figure that out.

Somebody has a little crush on our new marine! LOL

Hate to make more work for you and Mrs M, but if you're happy with the results, so am I. Admittedly, I keep getting distracted by my own story today, so it was hard redi g and stopping. I may reread tomorrow when things will be quieter.

One of my beta readers demanded I include a naked Russian ballet dancer. I can't recall if I did or not.

Thanks. Sometimes I marvel how a couple of paragraphs hit the right note. I wish I could bottle that stuff. Because of a binge reader, I jusr glanced at the first chapter covering CJ's high school graduation. (Walls June 2016 part I) CJ's conversation with Brian Sims made me smile. I think I got that one right too.
-
I like all the speculation but I'm becoming afraid I took it too easy on Northman. Maybe he likes conspiracy theories himself. We should audit his devices to see if he's a QAnon flunkie. Jimmy, Jimmy Chen, could we borrow a couple of those bugs you found in CJ's apartment?
-
@Reader1810 The real life USMC (staff) Sgt Austin MacKenzie will like reading you approve of him LOL He complained I had demoted him for the story. Northman's will be kissing the ambassador's behind before CJ leaves for the day. Didn't someone mention he was an Eddie Haskell clone?
-
The fact Domogarov's position's an open secret may be why the accepted the bugs not providing information. He might wonder why they were discovered so quickly, but he was probably rushed and assumed he left one visible which could have led to the others being discoverd. Their next scheduled interaction will be at the ballet. I'm looking forward to it. When that one posts, I'll have vodka and caviar on the coffee table.
-
He chose the wrong person to hate on. Someone else may have taken it quietly and looked for a way out. CJ will stand his ground and others may end up taking Northman down a peg or two on his behalf. When you trash someone that popular it can blow back on you.

Why did I know the word count being under 3k would elicit a comment. I'll have you know this is the last chapter with under 3k words. The remaining 24 are all longer.
-
LMFAO They do sound like lyrics for a song. You made me crack up.
-
Excellent, Theo! You've capture Northman's essence: qualified and efficient but lacking adequate managerial skills and a personality. I wouldn't be surprised if he remained at the same position, even if at other embassies, for the rest of his life. I think he's hit his personal ceiling.
-
Maybe if he was less of a miserable twit he would?
-
I recently discovered those shows are on Prime Video. They're on my watch list. Whether the State Department, the military, or any other large bureaucracy, there will always be slugs like Northman that crawl along, often under the radar.
-
I think Northman has a personal dislike for CJ and treats everyone else fairly. I keep going back to jealousy because CJ's better looking, has lots of money, a good education, and a future other than pushing paper.
-
@Clancy59 You're a troublemaker. Good for you. For all we know, Northman's been batted around from embassy to embassy for a while. What I really want is for CJ to lose his cool, reach across the desk, and grab Northman's tie intending to pull his head down and bang it on the hard surface. Everytime I see that scene, CJ ends up with a clip on tie in his hand.
-
@Clancy59 Are you serious? Who would want to marry such a disagreeable man? I don't think after only a couple of months being a jerk to CJ, he's going anywhere. I mean, If I got rid of him who would we have to kick around?
-
@scrubber6620 Interesting speculation. The fact the listening devices haven't yielded any audio, is probably a sign to the Russians they were discovered. At this point, the next move could be by either the Russians or the Americans. As for getting CJ thrown out of the country, I doubt they'd try that. Domogarov has an interest in CJ and I doubt he'll give up that easily. Even if he can't recruit our guy, it's better to keep him where he can keep an eye on CJ. The Bolshoi performance coming up in chapter 17.

Okay, I'll just say thanks for reading, reacting, and commenting. LOL

@84Mags I think many newer authors feel since they're writing romance novels they need to include lots of sex. Since I don't write that type of drivel... LOL My preference is to be sen as an author. Not just a gay one. You may have noticed I have as many straight characters, if not more, than gay ones. I try hard to reflect the real world.
