Thanks for reading, reacting, and commenting. Ambassadors are busy people who would not usually interact so much with a junior staff member. Of course, since it's CJ we're talking about, his actions force her (willing) interactions. I'll get her some help in dealing with Northman.

I'm gonna need a new ginger in the cast! I'm thinking Cox or whoever she designates would get involved if issues arose during a performance review. Let's see how it goes in the next chapter. CJ could just ask to borrow a bayonet or something from the marines...

@scrubber6620 One of CJ's talents I keep highlighting is his ability to bring people together to solve problems or advance projects. We saw him do it in high school (the AIDS Memorial Quilt display comes to mind), we saw him doing it in college when he introduced Brad to Heroes Haven, and we see it again in mexico with the technology center. Owen may have spark the idea for this project, but it was CJ who thought big, brought family, friends, and strangers together, and accomplished something wonderful. The associated praise and publicity are things he's having to learn how to tolerate. There'll be plenty more of that coming up. By the time he leaves Mexico he may be a minor folk hero there.

CJ shows us he's accustomed to his fathers' ways and we can tell he learns from their actions as much as their words. What applies to authors is just as important here: showing's better than telling. One other possibility people haven't mentioned is the effect the ambassador spanking Northman will have with CJ. He's tried to fit in, accept he's a rookie at the embassy, and tried to follow protocol. Of course, he attracts attention even while he tries to stay out of the way. Could he now be emboldened to strike back at Northman on his own? Of course that depends on whether Mrs. Cox and others move aside instead of slamming the pretentious butthole themselves.

I look forward to Fridays too. Considering how long it takes me to have a chapter ready for sharing, I anticipate readers reactions every week.

Amongst my many goals when writing a story is to provide a glimpse into characters' lives. As much as some people would like, not every chapter can have CJ kicking ass and taking names. Glad you enjoy the little things as well as the bombastic events. Although thinking about it, rubbing elbows with the upper crust is the norm for CJ, so these events give him a chance to collect more interesting people.

Is that due to global warming keeping temps up? We'll see how the actual review goes in a chapter or so.

Excellent distillation of the morning's events. You're absolutely right. Cox isn't a political appointee and therefore has experience in the diplomatic world. I'm certain Northman's not the first jealous person she has to put in his place.

LMAO Any shyness Liebe may exhibit I firmly believe is a temporary aberration. Her true character will reveal itself in due course, and I pity any fool who crosses her. Wait until you read about her at 7, 17, and 27. She'll be a good influence on Lupe now and her brothers in the future.

LMAO - Liebe's almost two, but Stephen may be the one acting terribly. As much as I like most of my characters, and even though I love CJ, Owen, and Liebe, the dads I think are my favorites. Brett's loud, obnoxious, and pushy but has a heart of gold. Cesar's the voice of reason most of the time without being stuffy. Perfect couple.

Thanks, Tony I think CJ's the more likely candidate to go ballistic at some point. Cox seems to by sly and jump in only when absolutely necessary.

    The Long Ride

You're slacking. Cliffies are mandatory around here. What would be the fun in serial posting otherwise?

In case anyone's curious about the story Owen started telling Liebe, here's a link to it. If you read it and enjoy it, show it some love with a reaction, comment, and/or recommendation.

@JayT What? Domogarov and Northman not sufficiently antagonistic you're looking for another one? LOL My intent was to show her being shy and deferential. Considering the entire day's events are a result of Owen wanting to help her, she's probably overwhelmed by the attention.

Thank you. Glad you like this installment. I'm not sure if it's she now has concrete proof of Northman's disdain for CJ, or if it's a case of her choosing her battles. Instead of being a helicopter parent, she's selective about when to intervene. This won't be the last time.

LMAO You have no idea. Throw in getting scolded by the big boss and Notrthman's going to be seething the entire weekend.
  18. Rain and low 80s here. What's this snow thing you mention? I think YOU should write me a letter about it.

“What the hell are you doing, boy?” Brett was sufficiently loud to startle CJ. Chuckling, Liebe tumbled off her father’s back when his hand slipped and he collapsed on the rug. CJ was glad the balcony doors were closed so neighbors could not hear. “Pushups! I help Ceej.” Instead of being upset, the girl acted as if falling was part of their routine. She rushed to scramble atop her father again. “Morning, Dads. If you look outside, you may notice the deluge. No running this mor

LMAO You've obviously not paid attention to dates. Cadet spans Ritch's four years at the Air Force Academy. From BCT in June 2020 to graduation in May 2024. The opening cocktail party in CDMX takes place in early September 2021 and dinner at the Sinclair's in mid-November 2021 (we know that because CJ, Owen, and Liebe were at a Veterans Day event in the preceding chapter.) There's quite a lot of story left before Ritch flies from Alaska to South Florida and before he visits Washington for spring break.

Thank you! My goal's always been to entertain readers while satisfying my need to tell a story. Glad it's working.

I refer you to @WolfM`s comment concerning possible beta reader reaction. Honestly, if I encountered such a long chapter in a story, I'd abandon it. Circumnavigation was enough of a challenge for me.

I don't understand. What do you mean by I haven't matched what happened in that story?

CJ practices martial arts weekly. In Mexico it's been with the marines. He jogs almost daily, lifts weights a couple of times a week, likes to play basketball with the homies, toss a football during the season, and now he plans to take up golf. His brother, Ritch, is the tennis player in the family (turns out his girlfriend, Lucy, turned him onto the sport since her entire family plays (That includes Harley!) Racquetball was uber-popular in the 70s and 80s and I recently saw an article claiming it was experiencing a resurgence. I wonde what happened to all those racquet clubs built in those decades.
