Not sure a 24 yo has the same patience and forgiving heart Mandela did. Brad's shown growth and maturity, but I didn't feel he was ready to let go of his grudge. Maybe one day.
-
Thanks, bud. Two more to go.

Paddy was always the more sensitive one; it felt right for him to try and reconnect with his grandparents. It would be subtle, but I'd expect him to keep working on his brother. As for the gay bubble, a long time ago I mentioned when I created the Elite, I made them all gay men. With the Squad, I wanted a gay/straight mix because I see the younger generations interact more freely regardless of orientation. That's based on what I've seen in my nieces and nephews. I live in a gay bubble, and I'm not sure Phil or Riley would do the same at this point in their lives. Particularly since they're in the NFL, the ultimate in macho fraternities.

Good to hear. Since her postings are not regular and I tend to forget what I've read, I'm waiting for more chapters to be revised before I tackle it again.
-
They take place centuries before what I've already posted, so it'll be all new characters. The first two take place about 500 BCE and the third one around the time of Europeans settling in the Americas.

sneak peek Malibu
Carlos Hazday replied to Carlos Hazday's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
As of yesterday, Malibu's in the can! I love that old expression, even if in the digital age, it doesn't always apply when making movies. It also fits well since one of the character's a famous movie star. Yeah, @Kitt, I know I'm a tease. LOL -
Thank you! Did you notice you're not the only one who thinks he needs to get over his dislike of his grandparents? I didn't think it was time for him to deal with that issue yet, but maybe sometime in the foreseeable future.
-
Stagnant characters don't do much for me. I like to see growth. Sometimes it takes a death or rehab to wake people up. War and losing his legs did it for Brad.
-
I hope this chapter also gave us a glimpse of how Patrick's turning out. I hope I live long enough to give him his own story.
-
Most definitely! Explosions, the first installment in the Leaving Atlantis trilogy, is my entry for GA's Spring Anthology. I'm working on the second one, eyeing the Fall Anthology for publishing.
-
@Dayne Mora is revising Cory & Efrain at the moment. Maybe one day I can borrow them again. I think Cory could handle CJ not being a cat person. LOL

Knowing you're a New Yorker is the reason I asked. Two years ago, around this time, I was in NYC visiting friends. I watched hard hats working on The Vessel at the time and knew I had to use the setting. BTW midday on the High Line is a great place to watch hunky construction workers on lunch break. I heard about the plans for Little Island and decided to incorporate it even though I don't think it's open yet. Much as I've moved some of the Washington action to Capitol Hill instead of Georgetown, I wanted to highlight NYC places beyond the UES, Chelsea, and Midtown. At some point CJ and Owen will also climb NYC's new playground.

Nope, not the end. Two more chapters left in Ranger. Sometime this month, I'll share a different kind of story as part of GA's Spring Anthology. As of yesterday, Malibu's all done. The story, set almost entirely in California, stars Brett Davenport an Cesar Abello. You may remember them!; they've shown up once or twice in previous stories. You can look for Brett and Cesar sometime in early June. After that I have nothing so I better write fast.
-
I started writing again today. If I can sustain a regular schedule again, I'll try to work on another Phil & Riley adventure.
-
It started as an idea to write something light-hearted, but I liked them too much to stop where that story did. I was working on the final chapters of Ranger while writing NYD and decided they would fit into this story.

Thank you! When I created Brad, I tried to not make him as mature as some of the other 'kids' around him. Although still marching to his own drum beat, he's matured to the point his personality is at times more somber than others. I think I like the new Brad better that the drinking and skirt chasing one.
-
I don't know. Maybe readers who dislike sports? Or don't find muscular, twenty-something professional athletes interesting?
-
Public speaking does not come easily to most people, and Brad's one of them. He's humble enough to admit it and acknowledge he has help when writing speeches. Hopefully, this shows he's matured enought to ask for help and accept it when offered.

For the longest time I had no idea of how Brad would turn out. When writing Hail to the Chief, I had to make some decisions, and I think I did well. Brad was dealt a lousy hand when his legs were blown away, but I wanted to show resilience and determination. Some of it has been inspired by USMC Corporal Alex Minsky, and some by a couple of amputees I interviewed. In my usual approach, I wanted to show him overcoming his challenges with the help of family and friends. As long as he remains focused on his new goals, I believe he can succeed. Quite a change from the teen who had no ambition while in high school.

You did read the story that introduced those two right? My memory gets worst by the day. LOL If Brad at 23 is anything like I was, he probably thinks he has all the time in the world to deal with serious issues. I wish I'd spent more time with my own grandmother back then before Alzheimer's ravaged her mind. BTW, I forgot to bring it up last chapter, did you enjoy the new NYC locations I used with Brad, Cristina, and Patrick?

Boss, I hope you keep these coming. I've missed the feature. -
Thanks, Chris. I think Brad's doing better dealing with his lack of legs than with his grandparents. I hope he doesn't regret declining Patrick's invitation to reach out.
-
Thanks, bud. I'm enjoying writing the guys as young adults instead of teens. Although there have been public figures before, I thought it was time to introduce recurring characters constantly in the public eye. Who better that two gay NFL players? LOL Once I conceptualized Phil and Riley, I knew I would fold them into the CJverse. I hope to use them again soon. as long as readers like them.

I thought of you when I decide to spin-in (if that's not a word yet I'm lobbying for it) Riley and Phil. I've been toying with an idea for another story starring those two. You think they could pull off another shot at stardom? LOL Yeah, Brad's still holding a grudge, and it probably does him no good. But I'm with Mac; I'm proud of the loyalty Brad shows his father.
