Matt's just that kind of dude that is excited to be included. I get the impression that his home life isn't so great. He adopted himself into the Hartley family as Mrs. Hartley mentioned, he's over there for breakfast, eats them out of house and home, and they still love him. Charlie and he have been friends since they were little... And I get the impression that even while Charlie was a jerk, Matt was always the exception.
