Simon and Taine would sit, awkwardly on the side, offering wet wipes and making comments asking if people need to hydrate. Matt will be enthusiastic till he notices Simon sitting out, and then he'd be spending the rest of his time trying to make sure Simon was ok. Tyler would probably be making everyone tea, and making excuses because he's more into just Taine and will be polite complimenting the performances. The pyromancer would turn pink stammer and hide in the corner. Charlie would feign a cramp, and go run it off. leaving Pip and Lynix the only two left in it... and well...

I am nearing the end of Book 3, Jerusalem is in sight. I might press into a fourth book because I am feeling compelled and the muse is very much into this tale. Each book is coming in around 20 chapters. I do, eventually, want to see what happens to them when they come home, not all do. Darien, he's got a dark prophecy to face. I do hope this tale is compelling, and interesting. I enjoy the characters. But the tone is dark in places, it has to be. The backdrop of the Crusade was... brutal.

It is funny, I am literally writing a chapter about this very subject when this post popped up. The Crusade was a horror show, Cannibalism, fanatics setting themselves on fire, massacre and carnage. And very few made it through all of this with any semblance of themselves intact. Darien is going to be tested, as he rises to a Crusader Lord, and the person who holds his soul, Wylan, isn't about to allow him to get swallowed by it. Darien may be the Warlord of the Silver Boar, Amir of the Judean plateau... but Wylan is the one who fights to keep him human. Trust our little Blind Squire, he's got work to do.

Meet Pip, the solution to the Taine-Tyler-Charlie problem. Because Charlie needs someone who isn't going to hesitate, waffle, and lead him on. (unintentionally because Taine is not doing it on purpose) And Mister Ellis is going to be PISSED. And Lynix... poor POOR Lynix isn't going to know what hit him.... or more specifically HE KNOWS what's about to hit him and he is going to hide. Biblical Angels are weird

Wylan is going to be a nightmare for the European nobility, and it will be spectacular. They expect a fragile, weeping, easily manipulated holy prop. Instead, they get a boy who walks around with a pony-sized warhound that looks ready to eat a duke, completely unimpressed by their silk gowns and titles.

Taine is dithering, his ethics are clouding what he needs to do. He knows he is going to hurt one or the other, and in trying to protect both of them he is only going to end up hurting both. No, Taine needs to think, and be honest with himself.

I was reflecting just now on how different Lynix is to Ellis. Ellis built a misery engine... while Lynix domesticated himself and happily feeds on the repressed sexual desires of a pent-up theatre kid with a binder, and his overly enthusiastic bunny of a boyfriend.
