Alex without Brian is a concerning thing. We're seeing him here without that moral anchor, being exactly what he was raised to be. Makes me appreciate our little Ninja Giraffe Pastry Chef all the more, Alex needs that spark of humanity that Brian brings him. @Paladin and I were discussing something along these lines the other day. I am prepping to write the third Coyote book, and the subject came up.

One thing I do like is Caleb's mentorship of Jacob, it's been going on throughout the book. And Jacob growing into it really well, it allows me to give exposition without dumping, but at the same time giving Jacob some agency of his own, developing skills that are useful.

I just don't think it's in certain people's understanding. Certain families are built on conflict and competition Strife that becomes an engine for something dark. When they see a family built on strength, loyalty, and helping each other It just doesn't register, there's always that suspicion: What's the catch, where's the weakness?
