Chapter Twenty-Six *** WORLD END: T-minus 98 days, 0 hours, and 00 minutes Château Laurier, Ottawa, Ontario The dining room of the Château Laurier was a sanctuary of a bygone era, all dark, polished wood and gilded mirrors that held the ghosts of a thousand political deals. Winter light, sharp and clear, streamed through the tall windows, illuminating the dust motes dancing like forgotten secrets in the air. Will Carter sat in a corner, the pristine white tablecloth before

    Chapter 25

Well Yani did find that someone in the PCO altered Will's orders. And since Will is being stubborn and not taking Andrew's call, he isn't aware that his orders were changed. He is of the opinion that Andrew is doing one thing, Andrew thinks Will has ordered something else. And so our resident stubborn gits, are on a collision course.

  6. Chapter 16: The Anvil The Armored Rover—a hulking, matte-grey fortress of a Land Rover—moved with deceptive silence through the dense, snowy woods. The cold had settled in, giving the air a brittle, sharp quality that bit at the edges of the cabin's heating system. Inside the vehicle, the atmosphere was tight, focused, and pressurized. Kenny’s hands were steady on the wheel, the cold aluminum of the steering boss a meager anchor against the adrenaline that had been surging through him since

I just learned, today, that Ben has passed away. It hasn't hit me yet, but will, soon. That beautiful, kind soul. Forgive me for not being braver, more understanding...

    Chapter 25

Ned to the rescue, "What, I just plugged it into the wall... dude's relax, jeez, of course it's online. Wow you'd think you'd never used a PlayStation before." Peter stared at the idiot. "It's ONLINE, meaning we can use it to talk to people." Ned shook his head, sipping from a can of Monster, "Yeah, like, so? What's my COD clan going to do, they're all about 13 and living at home with their mom's. Though BITCHSFNSHR-89 is thirty, but he lives in his mom's basement... dude's always going to be a virgin..." Peter scrubbed his hand down his face as he tapped out a message to the boys. "Please, PLEASE tell me you have a brain cell you haven't baked with copious amounts of weed, you know... something you can actually use to function?" "Rude, dude, I prefer the term mellow... why, you think I do too much weed?" Ned munched on the cheese puffs and watched Peter. "You know, like, we could be enjoying that game while we wait for your friend West to get online..." Peter turned his head in despair to look at Ned, "seriously?"

Chapter Twenty-Five WORLD END: 98 days, 2 hours, and 02 minutes Technical Department, CSIS HQ, Ogilvie Road, Ottawa, Ontario The only sound in the Tehnical Department was the rhythmic, frustrated tapping of Yani’s stylus against the edge of his Cintiq tablet. Lines of code, ghostly traceroutes, and signal strength graphs formed a constellation of data across the main screen. He’d been chasing the ghost of Silas Abernathy for 36 hours, using a sliver of satellite phone chatter int

    Chapter 24

Will is an honourable man caught in a dishonourable fight. He's Ned Stark-ing his way towards his fate. The honourable must adapt or get cut down. I hate it, my inner Will rebels against it, I want rules, and fairness, and justice... but those things are often diametrically opposed in the great game of State. I promise you that he learns and finds a way to Will Carter a solution that no one sees coming. But that's Will for you, he finds a way.

  20. Chapter 15: El Coyote's Workshop The insistent, jarring ring of the cheap motel phone had broken the tension, only to replace it with a cold, analytical dread. Kenny, his heart hammering against his ribs, had slowly picked up the receiver—a heavy, beige thing—causing before extending it to Alex. The question of who could possibly be calling them, here, now, felt like an immediate violation of their fragile safety. Alex had taken the call, his voice low and tight with fever and pa

    Chapter 24

Fairly common though, especially in Law Enforcement/espionage fields. Fields where there is a potential death from action. Cop shooting a suspect, or accidental death. Andrew has killed before, we know this, but so far in every book I've written, it's come from a place of defending himself, or HOT combat/heat of battle. I have never had him carry out an Termination order before, which I find is a very different beast. Andrew is a Lawyer turned spy. West by comparison is a Veteran soldier who has had to deal with it before. Thus their two very different persepctives. I find Andrew isn't reacting to what he did, he's reacting to Will's judgement of what he did. That's what he fears most, and we're really going to get into what makes Andrew tick over the next few chapters. I've been eagre to do a deep dive into him. We know Will's mind inside out, but Andrew has always been a bit distant from the reader. And I was asked, before writing this one, by a reader to get into what Andrew's side of things was. Why Andrew does what he does for Will, and what Andrew's psychology was all about. It's too easy to fall into the Mary-Sue side of Andrew, he's a character that skates the edge of it at times, and I need to be very careful of the ideal of Andrew, vs the more human (and to me, more interesting) Andrew. I don't know, I just like that there's more there. He fails, has failed before. He's made huge mistakes in the relationship with Will over the years (as Will has done in return, the can be wonderfully bull headed characters to write, and when they clash wow it's fun to write)

Also, cause it can't be stated enough, and might have been lost in the rest of the chapter. GO TOMMY!!! Bravery comes in so many forms, and Tommy is proving to be such a surprise and delight to write.
