The fluorescent lights of the Independent Grocers were harsh and unrelenting, casting a cold, sterile glow that made the Saturday morning shoppers look pale. The air, a mundane blend of fresh bread and floor wax, was brutally contrasted by the icy humidity of the dairy aisle, the coldest, quietest corner of the store. I live down the road from Jaguar near Coventry. There's an F-type parked at one of the neighbours... nice car... really nice. The people around here have far too much money... I prefer the Aston that's usually parked across the street from it. But I think giving Andrew an Aston or a Jag might be sacrilege... he's a Mustang man.

I've been wanting to write a car chase for years... I've never done one before. Andrew's been set up for one since Recourse was written back in 2007. But never really had a chance to do so. I also wanted to give the 2005 GT a warhorse death, going down fighting like she's bloody earned after all this time. Now to get Andrew a new one... or rebuild one.

I'm working on Chapter 31 currently. This book is going to be a long one. Has to be, there's so much material to cover. Hope that's ok with folks. It's almost as long as Breach, and still in the first act.

Lessons learned It's not normally a first thought in Ottawa when you're dropping your husband off for a flight and wandering through an airport. Though the RCMP are going to have some explaining to do.

Worst kept secret in town. I touch on them a little in Carter's Shadow, so it's nice to finally fix a... not a mistake... but an injustice to the characters, I think the deserved a bit better than either of them got in that book.

Lisa's strategy, once she learns of all of this, is a beautiful dance of PR, spin, and humanity. She's grace in motion and I genuinely am enjoying watching her work (writing it) I have taken her from a high school student all the way up to this, and mostly she's been a back ground character, or there as Will's chief of staff, but seeing her step around and pick up her sword to do battle is rewarding.

This is Jenny-Lynn's primary concern, and why she acts as she does. I am trying to write being very considerate to all of the players involved. Sally is innocent in everything, and if you recall from the past chapter. Jason has told her about Blake, so this is not about the relationship(ghost of one), it's about the impact of their private life being dragged into public. Sally is interesting to me. And Kenny loves his mom, and Jason loves his wife.

Peter is utterly adorkable: He offered a final, respectful nod and walked out, leaving Peter to hum happily over his chopping board, entirely oblivious to the fact that he had just inadvertently rejected an armed, charming officer who had confessed his attraction. Peter just thought he'd met a new, friendly, decent guy. He paused and smiled thoughtfully, as he pulled out his phone and tapped out a fond message to West filled with X’s and O’s at the end and maybe a hint about needing to hear more of West’s cheesy romantic poetry. A white checker’s piece, lost and somehow on the board, had managed to fend off a Red Pawn all by itself.

I love the controlled Chaos family, they're messy, they know it, and own it. I was toying with having Jenny and Sally being Frenemies but then things kind of felt cliche... and then I though, you know what... let's keep with the flipped script theme of this story. And I've wanted to show how Steve is kind of like his Mom. And of course, Kenny needed his run to Steve for comfort moment.
