  3. CHAPTER SIX: THE FORTRESS ROCK Location: The Crow’s Nest Officers’ Club, St. John’s, Newfoundland. Time: Late April 2023. 17:00 Local Time. Status: The Last Dominion. St. John’s did not look like a city under siege; it looked like a city that had decided the rest of the continent could go to hell, and it was going to have a drink while it waited. It was a city built on cod bones and stubbornness, huddled on a rock that spent half the year battling the North Atlantic for the right to exi

I mean, there is always him getting run over by his own parade float.... driven by Walter, who has forgotten his glasses... at least that is what he will tell Bobby McCormick, who won't ask questions, sign a slip, and call in road maintenance to hose down the street.

    Chapter 12

I've been asked why only one priest, and why different denominations. Specifically why Father Fitzpatrick (Original books) and now Pastor Jensen (Newer works) are not of the same denomination (Catholic of Baptist) Um to explain Ecumenism of Necessity While theologians in cities debate doctrine, in these remote communities, Christians live out a practical ecumenism. The driving force is not theological agreement but shared Christian love for the community and a commitment to keep the witness of the church alive. The shared minister's primary identity often becomes "the Christian minister for this place" more than "a minister of that denomination." In essence, you are absolutely correct. It is a vital and humble form of ministry that prioritizes presence, pastoral care, and communal worship over doctrinal purity, ensuring the light of the church isn't extinguished in isolated places. It's not a focus of my books, religion plays a small part. I think only Jason and Andrew are ever explicit about their faiths. But I keep it there to show that in a community as small as this one is, that there is a role there. Please do not think I am lecturing on it or anything. Just, merely pointing out that it exists and there is room in it. Also remember, again, that Canadian Baptists performed the first gay marriages in Canada long before it was legal. Will and Andrew, for example, were married by a Baptist Minister, it is just a part of Canadian history.

    Chapter 1

food for thought: "The hour of the wolf is the time between night and dawn. It is the hour when most people die, when sleep is deepest, when nightmares are most real. It is the hour when the sleepless are haunted by their deepest fears, when ghosts and demons are most powerful. The hour of the wolf is also the hour when most children are born."

    Chapter 2

It's funny I am on chapter nine currently, and learning who else was... is... affected by this man. It touches Garrett and Kyle as well. The tyrant that ruled his little kingdom. I am getting a little Gothic in his villainy, but it is a good way to tie the two books together. Why Garrett tormented Kyle, and why Kyle, in turn, hides. It also brings our beloved Chef-Ninja Giraffe into the mix. i do like it when Enarbrem Merrick (To use @drpaladin 's great way to describe him) Unites stories together.

The horror of Tarquin, is that he is meticulous in his execution. What buttons, and what leverage to apply when and where. I feel for Oliver, he doesn't know. And is complicit in his ignorance.

    Chapter 1

I decided to break a rule of mine, and release this one as there is a lot of interest in it. It is still, very much, being written, so just be warned if it is rougher in the editing than my usual fare. It is a lot raw-er than my typical story. You wanted to see Finn, you got it.
  22. Chapter One: The Auditor and the Grease Monkey Lydia Lydia Hickey did not believe in "picnics." Picnics were, in her estimation, an unsanitary attempt to combine the discomfort of sitting on the ground with the distinct possibility of ingesting an insect. They were performative nature-worship for people who owned too much gingham. But the picnic currently happening across the street, on the patchy, oil-stained lawn of Vickers Supply & Haulage, was not just an aesthe
  23. Chapter Two: The Art of the Deal (and Dinner) Finn Finn was currently being assaulted by a lint roller. “Stand still,” Lydia commanded, peeling off a grey, fuzzy sheet and attacking his left shoulder with renewed vigor. “You have dog hair on you. You don’t even own a dog. How do you acquire dog hair via osmosis? Is it part of your ‘street urchin’ aesthetic?” “It’s from Pastor Jensen’s Golden Retriever,” Finn grumbled, batting her hand away with genuine irritation. He fe
  24. Lydia, needs a date for her brother's wedding. Her target? Orel, the reclusive Merrick brother who catalogues graveyards and barely speaks. To get to him, she blackmails her mechanic cousin Finn into a double date with Orel's brother, the tightly-wound auditor Oliver. But Finn and Orel share a decade-old secret, a trauma orchestrated by their charming, predatory brother Tarquin. To stop Tarquin's rise, this unlikely alliance must weaponize their past against him—and in the process, reclaim the love stolen from them in a rotting barn. A story of revenge, rust, and rebuilding on broken ground.
