Blackwood has had enough of his errant son dancing with a noose. The period between 1749 and 1756 is known as the Interregnum—a cold war that escalated into the fall of Quebec, the Acadian Expulsion (a massive war crime), and the decimation of the Mi'kmaq people. It saw the founding of Halifax and the fall of Louisbourg. This was the war that determined whether the Americas would be French or English, and it was directly responsible for the taxation that led to the American Revolution. The siege of Fort William Henry drew in Native allies on both sides—including Huron and Iroquois communities whose older rivalries had, over the previous century, become entangled with the French and English imperial contest. It is a fascinating time, under-explored because it is overshadowed by the American and French Revolutions it directly caused.

Were it not for Tom, Percy would still be swaddled by his mother. Tom's dragged him into being a teenager, much to Percy's Father's sheer joy. Coming-of-age in that time was a much earlier thing than modern day and so Percy was very far behind, shy and introverted, sickly and frail. Yet along comes Tom, who doesn't give a fig about any of that, just sees his very own little Lord and says "Yep come along with me, you're mine."

I don't know why, but my first impression is Cleaner. Sharp, and eye catching in a good way. No complaints here, actually with my eyesight, this is a much more accessible feature. Thank you to the staff

Tom is a funny one as he develops through the next book He becomes VERY particular about what he likes and very direct. (Far too much like Eddie, Tom definitely has the same tastes as his "father")

Actual event, and utterly hilarious. The Architect nearly skewered the comptroller in a duel while everything burnt down around their ears... Utter chaos. They had to arrest him. Poor Handal had written the above piece for it, and was furious over the debacle.

From my writing of her, she was an exceptional beauty and intelligence in her day. Just married the wrong suitor. Blackwood was probably the better choice, and Edward is living proof that Blackwood loved her. But scandal, arranged marriages, and heart break was the rule of the day. Blackwood has shown loyalty to his son, even while Edward was unaware of his parentage. There is a strong reason he wants Edward back where he belongs.
