    Chapter 6

For me, it was Jeb's father. the antithesis of every other elder of the community. Jeb wasn't ready to hear what his old man was trying to tell him. Jeb so tangled in self-hatred and guilt over what he did digging into his mistake. While what he did was wrong, categorically, however he is willing to debase himself to earn the chance, just to apologize to Devon.

    Chapter 6

He wants to fix it, but he just doesn't know how. Devon has no idea what to do. Genie stirring the pot, and Alvarez going out of his mind with his own issues. I like that both Jeb and Alvarez are mirrors for each other and neither realize it. Both cowards when it comes to Devon and about being honest about what the reality of things.

    Chapter 6

Ch06 The mud of Lanternlight's main avenue had frozen overnight into a brittle, treacherous crust that shattered like glass beneath every boot that stepped onto it. Jedediah had been sitting in the same spot for three hours, his back pressed against the rough timber of the livery stable's exterior wall, his knees drawn up to his chest like a child hiding from a storm. He was numb. The cold had seeped through his threadbare coat hours ago, settling into his bones with the weight of

    Chapter 9

I just find it amusing that Ashot's probably a few hundred feet away carrying that exact sword, trying to convince Stephen to go to the Bathhouse with him for happy fun squire time.

    Chapter 9

Women who not only survive, but thrive in that era were a breed apart. It is so easy to slip into the propaganda and religious sanitisation of the time that women were meek and mild and wilting flowers. They very much weren't.

I have a feeling that somewhere, down the line, Ami and Libbet may become friends, were they to meet that is. ::whistles::

Oh my husband!... Oh! My Husband?!?!?!! Oh Crap, my husband! Good morning
  9. As they walked through the bustling streets, led by the fussy Genoese official, Séb offered the lie they had crafted. He could practically feel the clerk's calculating greed. "I was thrown from my horse during the breach," Séb said, his voice flat, playing the weary lord to perfection. "I lost consciousness. When I woke, the city was burning. I made my way east, then south along the river, avoiding the main roads. My squire found me half-dead in a wadi and dragged me to water." He g

    Chapter 2

Yeah I modernize a little of the language just to make it easier to write/be related to. But really glad you are enjoying it, I just wanted to write something with about a guy with a bit of swagger.

    Chapter 5

The town has them figured out, and their utter normalcy deflates all objections of the townsfolk. I've been reading a book about homosexuality in the West, it features a lot of letters by Walt Witman... and generally the attitude was that the more boring the couple, the more accepted they were. Hell it was highly common for men to share beds in guests houses to save money. "Save money" of course Mrs. Higgins.

  16. This gave me the vibe of someone who knew it intimately. There's a power in that, and you convey that onto the page very well, keep going I am loving it.
  17. This caused me to pause, but curiosity won out. The more I read, the more interested I became. I like a work that challenges me. This is worth the read.

    Chapter 8

This btw is a beautiful example of Wu Gong, which is the path of water that Erik/Ishan uses. An amazingly beautiful fighting style, we see some really good examples in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

    Chapter 8

I got some good feedback. and I will explain this chapter. This was originally a cutting room floor chapter... But I added it back in because of the character work it does between Erik and Seb. I know there is a sudden time jump between them running from the River town, to suddenly arriving. But I didn't want to rehash what was, essentially, covered in several chapters. Horses, desert, running, dogs... rinse and repeat. I COULD AND SHOULD have transitioned it better. No excuse, just pushing myself a bit hard lately.

    Chapter 5

Ch05 The heavy, iron-wrought latch of the clinic door clicked shut, sealing the room off from the chaotic, raucous noise of the Lemon Saloon's main floor. Outside, the ragtime piano hammered away, a frantic, out-of-tune melody that clashed with the rowdy shouts of cowboys and the clinking of cheap beer glasses. Inside the back room, however, the air was still, smelling sharply of carbolic acid, lye soap, and the coppery tang of the traveler's blood that Devon was methodically scru

    Chapter 8

I don't do throuples well, that was a big gamble on my part. 13 Hearts had some structural problems, and it could have done with another pass (I get so little time to work on revision drafts) But the three main characters were something I liked.
