    Chapter 8

It is implied, at some point, that he died in Radoslav's service. I don't think much more needs to be said beyond Darien is convinced by Wylan not to become his father, and be more like Haskal

    Chapter 8

It should be noted, that while Ser Mark was Darien's father. Lord Haskal, having no children of his own, was Darien's dad.
  3. The year of the Lord, 1087 – 3000 miles and ten years from the siege of Antioch. The floor of the keep was cold, the rushes offering little comfort against the draft that swept through the stone corridors. Ten-year-old Darien twisted in his blankets, his small, frail frame shivering. The nightmare was a familiar one—shadows reaching, teeth gnashing, the crushing weight of being entirely alone while his father was leagues away riding in the King's guard. He awoke with a violent start

    Chapter 6

I played a CK3 campaign at one point. And ended up with 13 bastard sons to the Seljuk Emperor Malik Shah... when he was murdered this began a rapid succession of murder plots... resulting in the youngest son left standing on a pile of bodies. I think he was all of 16, and the undisputed Emperor. Terrifying child.

    Chapter 12

Mickey is about to lie his ass off.
  8. The Song of Silence The Crystal Cathedral hung in the black like a prayer made manifest. Half a kilometer across, it was a flying saucer in the same way that a cathedral was a shed—technically accurate, spiritually absurd. The central disc was a lattice of white-gold alloy and reinforced glass, glowing from within like a lantern. Above it, a massive biodome arced toward the stars, filled with gardens and groves and artificial streams that glittered in the light of distant su

    Chapter 7

Darien was aware of Ishan's "Visits" since the last book. And he also knows Wylan very very well... when Ishan freaked out in the middle of them having sex, it's going to trigger everyone of Darien's suspicions. He's also getting used to Wylan's particular brand of weirdness.

    Chapter 7

Ashot, I think Ishan is imaged in an earlier chapter... hold on: This is for a later book, but Ishan is holding the spear, Sebastian is the crusader next to him.

    Chapter 7

The reason this chapter was so long was the Ashot's scenes. Vital for later plot. With Ser Lloyd getting sicker, honey was valued as a medicine. Given that the only place left to get it was Antioch, and Ashot the only one who could get in, blend in, and get out. He went and did it for his Steffy. Ashot's fallen for the monk, now if just the damn monk could find a damn coin... maybe if Ashot kicks Ser Lloyd a few dozen times, he might actually pay his squire!

    Chapter 7

Again true events. The Earthquake and the Borealis actually happened. The Siege of Antioch was full of weird events, coincidences, and superstition. Comets, meteors, earthquakes, blood red skies... it went on and on.

    Chapter 11

Highly resistant to Hawking radiation, that much I know... and capable of long term starvation... to be fair I think his obsession with food stems from that trauma.

    Chapter 7

Apologies for the long one, I really should have split this one into two. Good Morning
  18. The Dog Gate opened just after dawn. Ashot had been waiting since before the first light, tucked into the freezing shadow of a dead olive tree, his knees drawn tight to his chest, his breath misting in the bitter air. He had been watching the gate for three days now, memorizing its rhythms the way he had once learned the winding alleys of Mamistra, the way he had learned the unpredictable moods of the men who paid for boys in the bathhouses. The Seljuk guards changed at dawn, but the new s

  22. Chapter Twelve: The FAR and Away Team The planet hung in the viewports like a promise. Blue and green and white, swirled with clouds and oceans and continents that looked almost familiar. It was beautiful. It was terrifying. It was, according to Hughie's preliminary scans, completely uninhabited. *"Orbital insertion complete,"* Hughie announced. *"We are now in stable orbit. Beginning preliminary survey."* Mickey leaned back in the pilot's chair—still too comfort

    Chapter 6

Very true. Out of them all, the only one who seems to keep his hands clean is Wylan. And even then, he isn't immune to the horrors around him. All he can do is keep trying to be kind, which is what got him into the mess of becoming a saint in the first place.

    Chapter 6

Radoslav is dangerous. He was broken and reforged. Haskal can manage him, mostly, and Darien is going to have to learn as he's acting as the Third in command of Radoslav's host. Darien is starting to learn what the cost of being Haskal's adjutant is all about.

    Chapter 6

Antioch was brutal. This event occoured, and it marked the start of the darker chapters of the Crusade. The Patriarch is of particular note, that man endured a daily beating dangled in a cage over the walls of the city with a metal rod. He was taken down each night and treated, to repeat the "demonstration" every day of the siege, his only crime, being a Christian. He endured, survived, and was rescued. John the Oxite (11th Century)
