Chapter Three: The Ghost in the Rain The Porcelain Shell Finn The bathtub was the only safe place in the house. An old cast-iron clawfoot, its enamel stained with age. Finn lay curled in its dry, cold belly, a pillow jammed against the faucet. He wasn’t hiding. He was containing. The silence of Walter’s empty house wasn’t empty at all. It was a gallery of echoes. The dinner had cracked him open. Seeing Orel’s flinch, the way he folded into himself like a paper doll

So someone asked how Andrew is just accepted as an officer by those that know who he really is. Canada has a combined ranking system. Meaning all Officers from the military branches, Security services and police forces hold Commissions. Should a crisis arise, who is in charge is known off of this system. As Director General of CSIS Andrew is the highest ranking "Officer" on the Rock. As such, by default, he is commander of the Free Canada forces. The rank he is using is a cover identity supported by the Royal Navy (Who firmly consider Andrew one of their own after Breach), the acting Commodore title is to reaffirm this authority. Since both the Royal Navy and the Royal Canadian Navy attain their authority from King Charles III, it is the King, ultimately, who grants the Commissions. Ergo, Andrew is in Command and a Commodore. Hope that clears it up, least for the book purposes.

Next, Will defies the Overlords, and sends a message of defiance to every Canadian. It begins.

CHAPTER SIX: THE FORTRESS ROCK Location: The Crow’s Nest Officers’ Club, St. John’s, Newfoundland. Time: Late April 2023. 17:00 Local Time. Status: The Last Dominion. St. John’s did not look like a city under siege; it looked like a city that had decided the rest of the continent could go to hell, and it was going to have a drink while it waited. It was a city built on cod bones and stubbornness, huddled on a rock that spent half the year battling the North Atlantic for the right to exi

I mean, there is always him getting run over by his own parade float.... driven by Walter, who has forgotten his glasses... at least that is what he will tell Bobby McCormick, who won't ask questions, sign a slip, and call in road maintenance to hose down the street.

I've been asked why only one priest, and why different denominations. Specifically why Father Fitzpatrick (Original books) and now Pastor Jensen (Newer works) are not of the same denomination (Catholic of Baptist) Um to explain Ecumenism of Necessity While theologians in cities debate doctrine, in these remote communities, Christians live out a practical ecumenism. The driving force is not theological agreement but shared Christian love for the community and a commitment to keep the witness of the church alive. The shared minister's primary identity often becomes "the Christian minister for this place" more than "a minister of that denomination." In essence, you are absolutely correct. It is a vital and humble form of ministry that prioritizes presence, pastoral care, and communal worship over doctrinal purity, ensuring the light of the church isn't extinguished in isolated places. It's not a focus of my books, religion plays a small part. I think only Jason and Andrew are ever explicit about their faiths. But I keep it there to show that in a community as small as this one is, that there is a role there. Please do not think I am lecturing on it or anything. Just, merely pointing out that it exists and there is room in it. Also remember, again, that Canadian Baptists performed the first gay marriages in Canada long before it was legal. Will and Andrew, for example, were married by a Baptist Minister, it is just a part of Canadian history.

food for thought: "The hour of the wolf is the time between night and dawn. It is the hour when most people die, when sleep is deepest, when nightmares are most real. It is the hour when the sleepless are haunted by their deepest fears, when ghosts and demons are most powerful. The hour of the wolf is also the hour when most children are born."

Orel : Hebrew: "Light of God," derived from or (light) and El (God), representing divinity, knowledge, and hope.

Ollie is fun, a bit naive at first, but when he figures it all out, he and Lydia make one hell of a team.

It's funny I am on chapter nine currently, and learning who else was... is... affected by this man. It touches Garrett and Kyle as well. The tyrant that ruled his little kingdom. I am getting a little Gothic in his villainy, but it is a good way to tie the two books together. Why Garrett tormented Kyle, and why Kyle, in turn, hides. It also brings our beloved Chef-Ninja Giraffe into the mix. i do like it when Enarbrem Merrick (To use @drpaladin 's great way to describe him) Unites stories together.

The horror of Tarquin, is that he is meticulous in his execution. What buttons, and what leverage to apply when and where. I feel for Oliver, he doesn't know. And is complicit in his ignorance.
