    Chapter 36

You're welcome you do know this was historical fiction. That means some of it was true and some wasn't. Now you can figure out what was true and what wasn't. I'm joshing you. The design of he Villa was true, the plants, animals, herbs, trees were all true. The use of stone, bricks and cement were all true. The watering system was a little stretched time wise. Julius Caesar was the first emperor and was a member of the Senate as a Consul.

    Chapter 36

The Villa would pass to Aumen as he told him when they were going to write freedmen papers for boys who were escaped slaves. Juniius would inherit his fathers home and his grandfather's villa in the south. I assumed the villa would pass through the hands of the boys.

    Chapter 35

Duccius has always been a defender of Lucinius. Even to the point of accepting his philosophy that a freedman will work harder than a slave.

    Chapter 34

He must treat them well, probably better than they would be as freedmen. Only two have tested the water, Dante who returned and the one who ran away and never return, fate unknown.

    Chapter 35

Yes, he found family in the men and boys that lived on the Villa. He had a father in Gaius who had adopted him as his son. There ae times when you need to. stop looking back and look forward, Lucinius started ton look forward.

    Chapter 36

The fifth scroll was either never finished or parts of it were destroyed. The other scrolls had parts that were difficult to read. If I had the proper equipment, I could’ve possibly done a better job of deciphering the scrolls. I used other references in this writing specifically the scrolls that were stored at the Roman Library in Rome. The help and expertise of Mr. Romani, the owner of the book store, allowed me to fill in some of the gaps. From what I could decipher, the time was just be

    Chapter 35

Yes, you are right. Lucinius pleaded wit me to let him alone so he could concentrate on his Villa and men.😉

    Chapter 35

As well as a lot of friends. I believe I have said this before, the average life span was 50, not many men lived beyond that age

    Chapter 35

You are right, this is approaching the end of the story. It wasn't that unusual for men to raid a village and sell the captives into slavery. There is a biblical reference of such acts of brothers selling a brother into slavery. So the selling of Aeneas wasn't that unusual in those times.

    Chapter 35

Three years have passed since I last saw my father. On one of my trips to Rome, Duccius told me he had died, I cried. I always hoped he would have accepted me before his end. I guess he never could get past his initial hate. My grandfathers died within a year of each other. Mother stayed at the Villa near the ocean, Duccius would probably retire there, one of these days. Aumen said not to be surprised if he asks you to take that Villa for this one. Junius is growing up in his father’s footsteps.

    Chapter 34

Yes, he is. He has always been and the bond between both grandfathers and Lucinius is very strong.

    Chapter 34

Thanks Kev, I am sure there is a parallel here to the life of someone you know

    Chapter 34

I would have never been able to translate them. I can just imagine what they would look like.

    Chapter 34

He could call it cooking with herbs. He certainly knows how to use them.

    Chapter 32

You are right the bedroom war has always been won by the wife. If Aleta doesn't want Junius to go into the army, he won't go. I don't think Duccius is as devoted to the army as Appias.

    Chapter 34

We stayed for four full days. The men had a good quantity of salt to take back. I offered some to Grandfather, and he said he could always get some as he knew Niciu could get the salt from the sea. On the fifth day, after breakfast, we left to go back to the Villa. I think Duccius was anxious to go hunting, and there was no stopping. Leaving early in the morning, we arrived late at night. I knew everyone was tired except Junius. He slept in his mother’s lap. The men came from their rooms to help

    Chapter 32

Yes, he isn't as bull headed as his father.

    Chapter 33

I agree, He can't change what has happen, count your blessings and move forward
  21. CLJobe

    Chapter 32

He is ill. the average life span is 50. Lucinius is 23 nd Duccius is older, so he doesn't have long
  22. CLJobe

    Chapter 31

I agreee there has to be more Lucinius said he had three shelves full. I can't believe only these five existed. I'm going to the Roman Library in Rome to check.
  23. CLJobe

    Chapter 33

Exactly Lucinius's philosophy. Can't blame him for giving up. It's sad when you think what a closed mind has lost. Here a son would give him anything just for returning the love. I thought there were stupid people today, seems they existed in those days as well.
  24. CLJobe

    Chapter 33

I don't think there is any tradition. I imagine Appias's father has tried. But Appias is very hard headed and it appears nothing can get through. I often wondered if he didn't hold his wife at fault. Lucinius would be dead if she hadn't gone to the Temple and dedicated him to Apollo.

    Chapter 33

There are times when you must act like Lucinius, "he is not longer my father" I am a father, and no matter what my children do, I'll still love them, that doesn't mean I will like everything they do, but love for me is unconditional. PS: I'm glad you are happy now. Although it is hard, put the past behind you and enjoy what you have today 🤗
