    Chapter 33

Yes and it is sad. Don't know if he will ever change. He doesn't know what he is missing.

    Chapter 33

The next morning for breakfast, there was cheese, fresh-baked bread, and water or wine. We laid on couches as they served us. Lucinius was eating and watching his father. “Grandfather, I think this oil is mine. You should save it.” My father looked, “I thought that this oil was a little rancid. It tasted like the oil we had last night.” My Grandfather knew this was his oil and not mine. Later that morning, “I don’t understand your father. The oil last night was excellent, and the oil t

    Chapter 32

I thinkGaius already knows Appias is an arrogant ass, he served on the Senate with him. The grandfather that will be surprised is his own father. Lucinius is loved by his grandfathers, they see the intellect and wisdom in Lucinius, And soon they will see for themselves the hatred of Appias toward Lucinius.

    Chapter 32

I think you may be right. But I also think the battle will be between Appias and Aleta and not Duccius and Aleta. I have a feeling that Duccius will accept Aleta's wishes. Junius is going to be close to his uncle.

    Chapter 32

He certainly knows it now and so do the grandfathers

    Chapter 32

Not really, in Roman law the husband would rule except, Aleta is the daughter of a Senator, much like Celia. I think Duccius isn't like his father, remember he is close to his brother. So I have a feeling Aleta would win.

    Chapter 32

I am sorry you had a father like Lucinius. You seem to connect with Lucinius on a wave length that most people don't. I just hope that like Lucinius you found the peace that he has.

    Chapter 32

For the next two weeks, we worked in the gardens, groves, and vineyard. Our animals were tended with the help of Junius. His mother said he couldn’t have the lamb he wanted. I told him we would keep it for him, and he can play with it when he visits. That seemed to be acceptable. Nour said he spends all day with the animals. “We have to tell him they need to rest for him to come to eat. He wanted to know why he couldn’t eat what they are eating.” Laughing, I thought, he has an inquisit

    Chapter 31

We read stories as if they are occurring today and biased on life as its exists today. If Grandfather lived today, he would be consider a young man. Very few men at that time lived bast 50. Hard to believe. I am also curious as to what he does with the pelts and you may have the answer. I know many hunters who save the pelts and have slippers and gloves made from them. Maybe that is being done. I suspect more for covers or to lay on.

    Chapter 31

He has new boys to listen to his stories. He will be reminiscing with Lucinius of the times when Lucinius was a boy. There will be stories to tell and ears to listen.

    Chapter 31

Gramps selected the top floor. I'm sure if he has a problem getting there, they would arrange some sort of chair to carry him up. I would't worry about Gramps, remember most men at that time didn't live to be as old as they doing today. at 16 you were a man, under Roman law. It would be strange to have anyone live beyond the age of 50. The average life expentacy was low. Romans could live into their 60's but only about 25 percent of this society lived into the 60's.

    Chapter 31

I think Grandfather preferred the upper level. He could have any room he wanted. I'm sure the slight breeze helped Grandfather make his decision. There were no breezes like this in Rome. Rome was a fairly congested city, the rich lived on the hills where they could have their gardens and groves. Lucinius's place was like country. He may have but again the boys come through. I imagined the robes the boys slept on weren't that thick. I would bet he worked with the animals.

    Chapter 31

We were on our way a few hours before sunrise. I was hoping we would get there right after the evening meal. It was a pleasant journey. Junius had his rabbit to keep him company. I asked Duccius what happened to the other rabbit. He said it escaped. I wonder about that. It probably escaped to someone’s cooking pot. I think we just passed the gates when I looked, and Junius was asleep cuddling his rabbit. I wondered if he squeezed the other rabbit to death. The boy was going to be like his father

You my be right. I have one more scroll to decipher. So we shall see, after I finish this scroll.

    Chapter 30

You are welcome. I am always amazed at the creativity of a man when he is encouraged. Their is no question that Lucinius is encouraging the men to achieve the Villa's success

    Chapter 30

Lucinius was able to achieve these innovations because of his source of knowledge, the boys. The boys varied background have been an source of knowledge which allows Lucinius nd the boys to move the next level, i.e. cold wells, irrigation, etc. They all seem natural, B built on A

    Chapter 30

I think Grandfather is going to stay. I also think Grandfather has freed hi9s slaves. So we shall see what happens. How many people do you know who has been given what the giver thought was useless and turn it into something the giver regretted giving away

I got the impression it was a permanent move for Grandfather, at least Lucinius is thinking that way.

    Chapter 29

What a thought, I should have built on that. They are not related. But my stories on children are very similar and that is because I have come to how some of these boys living on the street in every country where I have visited.

    Chapter 29

I don't think Appias will ever change. He would have to admit fault or defeat as he would see it. He's a Roman soldier and cannot ever admit defeat

    Chapter 30

I checked the oats, and it would be at least three weeks before they would be ready for harvest. We now had to prepare the land where we grew the wheat for oats. I still switch the land between oats and wheat. Next year the oats will be harvested first, followed by the wheat. As soon as the ground was ready, we sowed the oats. After the oat harvest, we will prepare the land where we grew the oats for wheat. I laughed to myself as I looked at where we grew our vegetables. We use to have vegetable

    Chapter 29

They have tapped an underground water supply. I'm sure that if a drought occurs, they will find a way to insure the rooms are watered. The trees have the underground system. My guess they could extend that system to the vegetable garden and find a way to flood the wheat and oats. So far the scrolls haven't dealt with that issue.
