Andy finally has a family and a boyfriend who care for him, which is wholly different to any experience he can remember. Yet old learned habits will take time to un-learn. Thanks for commenting!
Andy has finally shared his story with Zander and the Stevensons. What must surprise him is that he is embraced, not rejected. It is too soon for him to fully trust this turn of events, but if he can believe in their warmth, and in Zander, things might turn out okay.
Andy and Zander have been circling one another for months. Now they know how they really feel about each other. It must be exhausting and liberating at the same time. Yet you're right - Andy's whole story remains to be told. Thank you for reading this chapter - it was one that took a long time to write.
I'm certain that Andy is happiest in Zander's company. Zander has always seemed the same with Andy, but Andy may not be able to see this. Their friends Kaz and Terry are talking about them - or at least about Zander. Thanks for making it into Andy's New Year.
You point out another wide gap in Andy's knowledge - how social situations operate. He's doing remarkably well with Zander again, and he's made friends with the Stevenson parents. But the one party we saw Andy attend ended very badly. He avoided Zander's birthday, but can he avoid this direct invitation?
Gunnar was completely wrong about his son, I agree. Had the man been able to get out of his own darkness, he might have seen the light in his boy. Instead, missed it entirely. Thank you for your comments and for reading Andy's journal.
Sometimes, events develop slowly. At other times, sudden changes leave one breathless. This is clearly one of the latter situations. Thanks very much for your comments!
I can't disagree with you - Andy's second encounter with Roger was at least as traumatic as the first. Roger must have preyed on many other young men in his travels.
And maybe it's Kaz and his outgoing, friendliness - but the big man is easy to trust and take at face value. For once, Andy might be thinking about the activity ahead, and not the risks involved. Thanks very much for your comments, and for continuing to read!
Andy has every reason to be fearful and cautious. Yet he’s unquestionably drawn to Zander, and to Kaz and Terry, too. I’m glad you continue to read Andy’s story!
Everyone who comes out should be as lucky as Zander is in his parents. Their words of support and acceptance are whole galaxies away from Andy’s experience with his father. Today, many kids who question their sexuality have nobody to affirm or support them, neither community nor parents who react as Zander’s folks did. Thanks very much for your comments on this chapter.
Andy seems torn, doesn’t he? Hard-learned experience in Carlsberg pulls him one way, but his new school seems different and maybe something better is possible - maybe. It’s definitely decision time. Thanks for your thoughts!
Andy (as he now calls himself) doesn’t feel safe in taking time to make a careful observation. Heaven preserve him from Anderson cousins; Donny was bad enough. Thanks very much for continuing to travel along in Andy’s journey.
You’ve said it so well. Eric must be feeling very guarded, yet for this moment in time, there’s food and purpose and even some kindness in his life. Thanks for your thoughts, and for continuing to read his story.
He seems to attract negative attention from people who won’t wish him well at all. It’s enough to make him very wary, certainly. Thanks a million for reading and commenting.
Eric/Stefan has gotten a respite. Living rough as he does, luck - both good and bad - can arrive unexpectedly. Thanks for continuing to read his story.
To stay would invite an almost certain conflict with whoever was really assigned to intern. No doubt, the authorities would come to investigate sooner or later. Thanks for your comment, and for reading!
The Fight For Inclusion stirred my heart. It’s an anthem for us to remember. I couldn’t help but smile wistfully as I read Companions. But your Haiku completely stole the show. They were awesome.
I shall delight in the image of you reading these in the garden; please borrow whatever you like to show that math crosses into poetry. My own students in Calculus remain skeptical. Thank you very much for reading!
