    Chapter 4

The 'woody' joke was a spur of the moment thing. I mean, if I hadn't used it, one of YOU would have! 😃
  2. Geron Kees

    Chapter 4

Odd ducks have always appealed to me.
  3. Geron Kees

    Chapter 2

You ask some good questions, but I know you don't want ME to tell you the answers. Well...not here, anyway!

    Chapter 2

You have just laid out the way EVERY reader of a book they are enjoying feels. You can marathon it, and then it's over (which is always a little bit anticlimactic); or you can be a little more patient, and maybe read a chapter or two before bed each night, and make it last. I prefer the the second way, myself. It means that I look forward to hopping into bed just a little early each evening to pick up where I left off.

    Chapter 2

Thanks, Gary. I also am fond of older houses. There were some marvelous ones built in the period between about 1880 and 1920, especially. The gilded age. A fascinating time for experimentation.
  6. They made good time going back. The trip was short to begin with, but at this time of the evening there was no traffic to speak of. They reached the lane and turned into it, and Ricky drove it faster than he had in the light earlier that day. "Slow down, Rick," Adrian said, reaching out to place a hand against the dash. "The house will still be there when we get there," Ricky took his foot off the gas and the SUV immediately slowed. "Sorry. All this spook talk has me worried for Moped. T

    Chapter 3

    I guess we'll find out!

    Chapter 3

MOST dogs find litter boxes dull and uninteresting. No self-respecting dog wants to go over his or her OWN scent! But dogs will go where they've gone before if they're inside. MOST dogs, anyway. Let's just call Moped 'cooperative'.
  9. Geron Kees

    Chapter 3

Maybe the house doesn't choose anything?
  10. Geron Kees

    Chapter 3

Maybe your skwish is making you an offer you can't refuse, capisce?
  11. Geron Kees

    Chapter 2

    Hope you enjoy your Halloween!

    Chapter 2

Francis Ford...Cupola? Sigh. Sir, you have NO shame!
  13. Geron Kees

    Chapter 2

All you can do is be patient. Sorry. I could have posted the story all as one file, as I've done with some in the past, but this one came in at 45,000 words, and that really would have been hard on readers. Right? 😁

    Chapter 2

Land values in many rural areas of upstate New York are considerably less than anywhere in California, probably, as are the property taxes. Property taxes are all local taxes. The state does not assess any property taxes itself. The farther you get into the boonies, the less property tax becomes. So Annie would be paying a lot less in yearly property taxes than you might guess. In reality, she would have put a part of the purchase price down and gotten a mortgage and held on to most of her cash, but I went back and looked at the way I worded that conversation and I made it sound like she bought it outright. Oops.

    Chapter 2

I hope the explanation will satisfy you!

    Chapter 1

Great to see you back! I can only post two chapters per day. Most are set to post at 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM now, but the last two will post Sunday just after midnight (Saturday), and the last chapter at 8:00 AM Sunday morning. Rules! 🙂
  17. Geron Kees

    Chapter 1

Hi Gary! I know exactly what you mean about finding time. I have been buried in things for two months and I'm finally coming up for air. Sort of. Hope to get caught back up with stories here, too! 😁
  18. Geron Kees

    Chapter 1

I can only imagine (and I do) that Kip is a rather excellent snake handler.😉 As for the other things...maybe the future will tell!
  19. "There's a good girl," Ricky said, as Moped launched herself into her bowl of food. "Hungie doggie, huh?" Charlie laughed. "You always talk baby-talk to dogs?" Ricky straightened and grinned. "Only if I like them. And they like me. It's hard to talk baby-talk to a Doberman that's about to rip your face off." Adrian and Kippy, seated at the kitchen table, laughed. "But Moped wouldn't hurt anyone," Ricky continued, watching the dog eat. "She's a sweetie." Annie had left just be

    Chapter 1

Thanks! As for Ricky's sibs, they were off trick-or-treating and couldn't make it. And I forgot about them. 🙄 There are enough characters in this series, both active and only just mentioned, that I have to keep a book on the subject. And I have a habit of adding more characters as we go along. If I ever get them all in one story, there will only be time for each of them to have one line!
  21. Geron Kees

    Chapter 1

Thanks for the very nice boost to my ego! Kippy can handle crocs and dingos, I think. And he loves dogs! And being with Charlie, he's very used to all sorts of noises in the dark! 🥰
  22. Geron Kees

    Chapter 1

    Awww...you peeked!
  23. Geron Kees

    Chapter 1

Agreed. I also ignored Covid in the July 4th tale. I mean, we are all stressed enough over it without having it added to our means of escape, right?
  24. Geron Kees

    Chapter 1

That's a very kind thing to say. Wouldn't feel the same to me, either, though. I think this is the fifth Halloween outing for the guys.
  25. The road wound through a wooded countryside bright with reds and yellows. A fair amount of stubborn green lingered among the trees - those growths which had either resisted the call of the coming winter thus far, or for which green was a yearlong color. This part of the state leaned heavily towards deciduous trees, but the conifers were also well-represented. The result was beautiful, any way you looked at it. "Wow," Kippy said quietly, watching as the early morning sunshine played light gam
