    Chapter 16

First Contact, if it ever happens, will be exactly wherever we first meet the aliens. If they have not come to us by the time we (if ever) have the technology to leave our solar system and go places in acceptable slices of real time, odds are that that first meeting will not be anywhere close to Earth. We may have to go and find them.

Har, maties! Activate the pizza engine, and let's be off! 'Ware the sausage, lads! They bite! Sigh. Italian space opera is so much fun! And delicious, too! 😁

    Chapter 16

I have given the tail of the science in this story a few hard pulls. But only for the sake of having fun!

    Chapter 16

Ah. But do amphibians have a soft spot for YOU?

    Chapter 16

I think Bzup was trying to say that Jem needed to trust him and go visit the ship. That did not mean he couldn't take the entire Notre Dame football team with him!

    Chapter 16

Those sneaky Vorlons! They never did recognize foreign patents!

    Chapter 16

They'll probably take Kel with them to hold down any of Portland's crew that wake up with the screaming meemies.

    Chapter 16

On the subject of First Contact, all we have ever been able to do is to imagine such an event. Most stories tend to complicate it, and make it seem a terribly difficult process to complete. It may actually turn out to be much easier than we ever imagined! "Hey! Who are you?" "Bonnobbas, from Capilarian 4, in the Huhwhatsit system." "Oh. Just get to Earth?" "Uh huh. Strange place." "Yeah, but we like it. Hey, you wanna beer?"

    Chapter 8

I haven't seen that film yet. Everything is better in the movies!
  10. Master Gwinn Portland, Captain of Chregar, sat at a table in his vessel's mess and ate heartily. "I feel like I haven't eaten in a week," he said for the second time, as he speared another chunk of ustric with his fork. "I don't think you have," Moira told him quietly. The man had been found in his own bunk, beneath another of the fine living meshes, apparently simply asleep. Yet after Bzup had dispensed with the mesh the man had been slow to awaken, causing Moira to suggest he had bee

Ohhh! You KNOW Bzup, and didn't tell me???

    Chapter 15

My own dog does have a tendency to read over my shoulder.

    Chapter 15

A seamount is just a mountain beneath the water, a rise in the sea floor. If Bzup's people turned any of them into apartments, they're being very discreet with the advertising! 😁

    Chapter 15

Ah. Actually, there are three chapters left. 18 in all. Surprise!

    Chapter 15

I'd tell you, but what fun would there be in THAT?
  17. Geron Kees

    Chapter 15

I had a feeling most people would assume this story was going in a certain direction. So, naturally, I went the other way!

    Chapter 15

    Or both!

    Chapter 3

A group of hobbyists could easily use their spare time to code such games, but AI could easily do it, too. Just because it's a colonial world doesn't mean it's all work and no play. And, in such a setting, relaxation would be even more important, I would think. It's just a game. No one is watching them play!

    Chapter 14

I think I thought so at the time!
  21. The ice pack loomed before Vespris once again. Their return to the scene of the attack filled the ship with a certain sense of anxiety; but while the edginess was obvious in the way everyone carried themselves, it also seemed tempered by their newfound trust in Bzup. The little alien had found a place among them, and the crew of Vespris looked out for their own. "The small inlet where we were beset by the orx is before us," Master Terpin told them at lunch that day. Everyone had turned out

In this case, we hope that history does not repeat!

    Chapter 14

I would think that if Bzup's people had been on Benteen since the Righoff lines shifted, and have remained apart and caused no problems, it would be a clue that what they are doing now might have a valid reason.

    Chapter 14

Everybody worries about nukes. As a kid I always worried I'd be vibrated to death! 😁

    Chapter 14

True. We call frequencies we can hear 'sound', but some frequencies we can't hear can be extremely destructive to living things. But some sounds can soothe and relax and make you go to sleep!
