    What can I say?

    Chapter 12

    You never know!

    Chapter 12

There is no great answer to that, just the notion I had in mind when I wrote the scene.

    Chapter 12

Well, it comes down to notions of what a given technology considers wasteful. But it's not important.

    Chapter 12

That's a wonderful question, and you are the first to ask it. My excuse is: In the press of the moment, Jamie had yet to think of that. New as he is with the use of magick, it wasn't an automatic thought. It WOULD have occurred to him, had not the wolf shown up at the door first. I debated that when writing the scene, and decided that Jamie could be excused for not thinking of it immediately in the press of things. That action actually happened very quickly. I wanted that moment for them to meet the new character. I wondered if anyone would nail me on it. But it does happen in the real world, that in a moment of crisis, people can NOT think of the most obvious of solutions! The next chapter will offer some words on that.

I'm too young yet to go insane!

    Chapter 11

Yep. As a young man. Not nearly as much fun a flick as the Tracy portrayal as an adult. THAT one was a legend-builder, for sure. Taken with a grain of salt, that is.

I kinda liked it, myself. Thanks for the positive waves. 😁

I do believe LUCK plays a factor here.

Everyone should know at least ONE talking wolf. It really makes the day go better!

    Chapter 12

Um, well, actually, a rocket fired at an angle can still reach escape velocity and leave the earth. It becomes a question of power; or, the duration of the application of power. A rocket fired at a 45-degree angle to spinward of the planet gains some small momentum from the rotational energy of the planet. A rocket launched at an angle will follow a parabola, as it's influenced by the gravitational acceleration of the planet below. If the amount of energy applied is insufficient, the parabola intersects the earth, and of course the object will impact elsewhere. Think ICBM. But if acceleration is simply maintained to escape velocity, the parabola doesn't intersect the earth, and the object will escape into space exactly as if it had been fired directly outward. The truth is, we fire rockets straight upwards now because it is the cheapest, most direct way to orbit or escape. It minimizes the time in atmosphere, which equates as drag, and only requires a short amount of time under a high expenditure of energy to attain, which is the way our propulsive technology operates today. With a technology where power is simply abundant, a much more leisurely approach to space is is entirely possible. Propulsive technologies of the future may be radically different from what we know today in their ability to deliver power over a sustained period of time. I only say this, as it may or may not impact on the future of the story (no spoilers!).

    Chapter 11

Magic and science are fast friends. Even the tech of today would seem like magic to people just a century or two past!

    Chapter 11

I'll give it some thought. Maybe there will be a sequel.

    Chapter 11

I am not a huge Edison fan, either. And I have already paid small homage to Mr. Tesla in one of my Charlie Boone stories. Edison placed business before science. He was a nasty businessman, at times, too. His battle with Tesla was unfair from the beginning. That said, he had an intuition about electricity that only grew, and it was that 'feel' for electricity I was comparing Jamie's growth to. And, in the end, what fondness I feel for Edison is more than likely due to the way Spencer Tracy played him in film. I always did like Spencer Tracy.

    Oh, no! Not that!

    Chapter 11

I remember those words from Newton, and he was absolutely right. Our world is built upon ancient foundations, every brick laid by those that came before us. Some whose names we've forgotten, but others we still remember today. It's unbelievably cool, when you think about it.

    Chapter 11

Charlie Boone stories for Halloween will still be a must. Christmas, too. And, I think you'll find the occasional extra story will just pop up unexpectedly, as I have time. Kip won't let me goof off, believe me!

    Chapter 11

One of many. Everything we know stems from things that came before. It's the way of the world, as Jamie might say.
  22. I do remember them now.
  23. They waited for the sun to rise to mid morning before proceeding, so that the light level within the forest was strong enough to see by. Jamie and Geert cleaned up as best they could and changed their clothing, the morning sun streaming into their camp showing grime they wore from their episode with the great beast at the precipice, that had been invisible the night before. Jamie still felt a small weariness from the previous day's exertions, and Geert also looked less than ready to face new dan
  24. I did like the review, and thank you. I see the system still won;t allow me to respond to reviews. These comments seem to post, though! To tell you the truth, I'd have to go back now and see who the characters were. Who knows? Maybe they can show up again!

    Apparently not!
