Dustin's a good kid. This was a dangerous chapter, because Billy has fallen so far that if Dustin had offered Billy might have given in to temptation. How can someone so smart be so stupid, right? Good idea with the dance, but I can't compete with a timeless American classic!
-
Dustin is only now beginning to become the person he should have been without the abuse he went through. We'll get Em's reaction next chapter. What we are seeing now is the cumulative effect of all of Billy's lying to Brett. He's so disconnected from the reality of the moment, thinking that he can hold together all the pieces of the dam that is falling apart all around him. The collapse is inevitable.
-
Nothing wrong with wanting justice, of course. But what Brett is upset about is the selfish and jealous side of Billy winning out. Brett knows what being consumed with jealousy and selfishness did to him, it got his ass kicked and made him an all-around jerk. He's afraid Billy is headed in a bad direction. You're not the only Billy-Dustin shipper! Of course, the that is the one rule of WAR that cannot be broken, Billy and Dustin can never get together. Kill Billy's dad? Break Brett's leg? Turn Billy toward the dark side? All fair game. But never can Billy and Dustin finish what they started that night after the card game.
-
Indeed. Just Billy disregarding Brett's feelings once again. It's become too easy for him.
-
Yeah, neither one is my idea of a good time. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
-
Not like Brett to seek revenge, right?
-
Well Billy did, at least! Poor Brett's eye... Maybe a few months earlier Billy might have considered it. Now it's personal. Billy won't be giving up anything to her. Billy would have been bad for Dustin. Dustin would have let Billy run him over. As for Brett, we'll see!
-
It's a sign of Billy's arrogance, his disregard for Brett's feelings. He's blinded himself to what's right in front of him.
-
I can't compete with a cultural classic! Such pressure! lol!
-
Glad you liked it! This was one of those moments where reality takes over. Not every sexual experience is awesome for both partners. (And it also shows how Billy is totally misreading Brett and taking him for granted.)
-
Brett is right, it burns! You may be right about hell breaking loose! Should be interesting!
-
Ride 'em cowboy! lol Glad you enjoyed it!

Excellent as always, Comsie! What's really fun is when your readers start shipping your protagonist with the rival! It's fun to play in that sandbox.

Great discussion! The new chapter is up now! Check it out! -
As March turned into April, the light at the end of the tunnel was getting closer. Only two more months and school would be behind me. I decided on a college. I was going to go to the University of Pittsburgh. I hadn’t decided what to study yet. It didn’t matter at that point. It was nice to know that my education was going to be paid for by Brett’s parents. I felt guilty about it at first, but after a while, I didn’t feel so bad. After all, they had been lying to Brett for years. They

Your WAR preview for chapter 15 - The April Fool: Attention all students and staff: It has come to the attention of the administration and the board that there are students who are planning to sabotage this year’s senior prom with activities which are prohibited by our student code of conduct. Therefore, let it be known that any couple wishing to attend any school dance/activity must be a male/female couple. Same sex couples are not permitted to attend school events. Any person who is found in violation of this policy will be subject to appropriate disciplinary measures, including forfeiture of class rank, suspension from all school activities, or possible expulsion from school. Alas! All I do is copy from Word and paste it in the box. Well, thanks for going through the extra step to read it!

Maybe the river isn't the Monongahela, maybe it's... deNile! I'm just imagining Billy: "His eyes were light blue, kind of like steel, but not grey or gray. I mean, which is it? Grey or gray? But no, his eyes were kind of like smoke, but only a bluish tinge that reminded me of the sky, with some light fluffy clouds up above. And maybe a little bloodshot from all the pot I had no clue he was smoking!!!!" -

And Billy's only noticed the eyes because he always notices people's eye color because his are so unique. -

It's easier to see things in the rear-view mirror than the windshield. Billy only picked up on it because he's close to both Brett and Joey, and had been to Joey's house and seen Dr. Reilly in the wedding picture. It wasn't until Billy noticed Jack's eyes when it all started to click. -

Joey lives with him though. We know Joey's seen the intimidating side of his father. The kid was scared to death when he got suspended. -

It That's the motivation for "why keep it a secret for so long?" It will destroy what Jack has spent his whole life building. Maybe the cracks are beginning to show, but we see them because Billy sees them. The greater community would never suspect. For a man whose career has been built on his reputation as an upstanding and respected member of the community his whole life? Having the town discover he fathered a child out-of-wedlock will cause irreparable damage. Very few people have seen the side of Jack that Billy saw in the pastor's office. Even Pastor Carl had left the room and it was just the two of them. Most people only know the charming side of Jack, just like most people have no idea that Brett has a vicious side. The intimidator only came out because Jack felt threatened by Billy, so he retaliated. No one would care or be surprised if it came out that George had secret kid, or Frank. They were known for trouble. Jack is the kind of guy who never even gets a speeding ticket. Who would even suspect him of something so terrible? -

"Jack McKenzie? Respectable golden boy whose life is the very definition of integrity? How kind of him to welcome this young single mother into the community! And she's best friends with Heather McKenzie? This beautiful lady who has charmed our beloved town? Well! Any friend of the McKenzie family is a friend of ours! I'll bet she adopted that poor wild and out-of-control boy of hers."
