  1. It took Jake a moment to realize he wasn’t dreaming when he woke up with Kyle’s warm arms wrapped around him. He snuggled closer to his boyfriend and felt Kyle squeeze him more tightly. “I love you,” Kyle whispered in Jake’s ear. Jake smiled for what felt like the first time in forever. It had only been a few weeks since they’d been together last, but it felt like an eternity. “Don’t go back,” Jake sighed, snuggling into Kyle’s chest. “Stay with me forever.” Kyle he

Danny's not wrong about his feelings. From his point of view he was seen as the bad guy after what happened at last year's band camp... twice. He feels like he's returning to the scene of the "crime" going back. Caleb - I included him to show that Mr. Reilly was right about the kind of leader Danny could be. Is he the best player? No. But he sees people and is a great motivator. Mr. Reilly knew the band would need both Jake and Danny this year, especially while he's away.

Kyle's known these two for a long time. I think he's more concerned about Jake's abandonment issues becoming a crisis. Notice how Jake immediately changed as soon as he wasn't alone. Beneath the responsible leader, Jake's still the kid whose parents divorced and fought over him.

Chapter Four – Shadows Jake awoke in the morning to find himself alone in the dorm room. Overnight, Danny had managed to remove every trace that he’d been in the room, and all his belongings were gone. Jake sat up in bed. He sighed and felt like going right back to sleep, like maybe the whole fight could just become a bad dream instead of a horrible reality. He didn’t even bother to take a shower or brush his teeth before he grabbed his phone and called Kyle. “The person you

    Cut the Cord

Jake thought it was weird that Danny had chosen to sit in the back of the bus on the way to Clarion University for band camp. He worried that Danny would get carsick and kept looking back from his usual seat at the front of the bus next to Mr. Reilly to make sure he wasn’t turning green. “I just want to hang out with the other seniors and not have to listen to you and Mr. Reilly talk about marching practice,” Danny had said as they boarded the bus. Danny was definitely regretting the d
  7. Thank you! If you're looking at what's next, I'd read Aiden's War before Dustin's World. Aiden's War is like WAR 6.5.

Danny's always had a public persona held together with duct tape and charisma.

Oh, we're definitely heading for a collision between our boys! (Is it even one of my stories without drama? lol)

Danny's story is going to be very interesting. But the good news is he's not in a dangerous place, just a bad place in his head.

I loved Aiden's War. It was like WAR 6.5. Tyler was one of my favorite characters. And of course, Mr. Hartley is just reveling in his evilness.

I spent many years in the marching band. Some wonderful memories. Danny and danger are like peanut butter and jelly.

Who would have thought these two idiots would turn out to be responsible adults?

Kyle McHenry walked quickly from the band room following the final tryouts, phone in hand, fingers scrolling his contacts to reach out to his boyfriend. The day went exactly as the rest of the week had gone. Marching drills in the morning. Music drills in the afternoon. Field drills in the evening. His marching and performance were in top shape, and it was obvious he had been well taught in high school. He was a shoo-in to make the cut and become part of the Nittany Lions marching band. I'm picturing Billy in his office with dozens of paint chips. All of his coworkers have been surveyed. His boss reminding him the quarterly reports are due. And Billy being like "Wait! Before you go... does this look too beige? I mean, it's warm. But maybe too warm?" And Billy's boss just shaking his head and leaving Billy to his swatches. He knows the reports will be done, he just enjoys the Billy show.

“This is going to be my year,” Danny Rossi told himself as he looked at his reflection in the mirror. Senior year had finally arrived, marked by the first day of band practice that midsummer morning of 2018. For years, Danny had watched as others had gotten ahead of him in band while he lingered in mediocrity, but no longer! He was a senior now. No longer would his band director, Mr. Reilly, be able to ignore the improvement he’d made. He’d worked hard all summer practicing his trumpet

    Unraveled

As Jake and Danny begin their senior year, everyone has something to prove at Mon Valley High School. But as wounds from the past reopen, carefully constructed identities begin to unravel.

  23. Now when has Billy ever been one to tell someone a secret?
  24. Billy definitely deserved something for everything he's put Dustin through. The problem is the three boys know exactly how to hurt each other.
