THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY Jack Scribe In most places in the country, voting is looked upon as a right and a duty, but in Chicago it’s a sport. In Chicago not only your vote counts, but all kinds of other votes…kids, dead folks, and so on. Dick Gregory Chapter 10, A DAY NOT FOR REST The Saturday movie, with all its subtitled psycho goriness, finished at 6:30 p.m. Evan left the theater and passed by the ABC7 studio window on the way to the garage on Lake Street where his Bi

Do you Shave/trim/'let it grow' down under?
Jack Scribe replied to Dark Princess's topic in The Lounge
Here's some info on shaving: http://www.malepubichairshaving.net/ I agree with others - that shaving everything makes a guy look like an eight-year old. My sage suggestion: shave the scrotum and the base of the shaft, and trim to about 1/2" your pubic hair. You can buy a hair trimmer at Walmart for twenty bucks. The other guys are right...it'll give the tree a taller look. Experiment with moderation until you come up with the ideal 'manscape' for you. One final note - if you have a good male friend, see if he would help you out, and vice versa. -
Your hometown is my fave American city. Lived there twice and look forward to a return visit next year.

THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY Jack Scribe Cook County has been a dark pool of political corruption for more than a century. In the last 36 years, 31 sitting or former Chicago aldermen have been convicted of corruption or other crimes. The Chicago Sun Times – 2010 Chapter 9, NETWORKING It had been a curious, hurry up and wait morning for Evan. He’d cleaned up, pulled together a preppy Paul Stuart ensemble for the meeting and was out the door in record time. However, when he ar

What the heck...here's a picture of moi, taken last week in howntown Palm Springs, Ca. The San Jacinto Mountains - to the west - are in the background. On the other side of the mountain range is the beginning of the Los Angeles urban sprawl.

THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY Jack Scribe A facade of skyscrapers facing a lake and behind the facade, every type of dubiousness. E.M. Forster Chapter 8, RING-A-DING-DING Being up early on Saturday morning was not high on Evan’s list of ‘must do’s,’ especially with the rocky night he’d weathered, but he had promised Sean a callback. ‘Gotta find out what’s going on in the Caymans…Marv will want a full report.’ He poured his first cup of coffee and padded back to the bedroom

I was struck by the brilliance of a recent blog posting: So, let me get this straight…Charlie Sheen can make a “porn family”, Kelsey Grammar can end a 15 year marriage over the phone, Larry King can be on divorce #9, Britney Spears had a 55 hour marriage, Jesse James and Tiger Woods, while married, were having sex with EVERYONE. Yet, the idea of same-sex marriage is going to destroy the institution of marriage? Really?

THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY Jack Scribe At a news conference organized by self-identified gang members, several speakers complained that Chicago police and city officials do not respect them. ABC7 News Chapter 7, CORDIALITY IS A STATE OF MIND Visiting the Second Story was a hoot for Kris. Something completely new. The gay bar, wedged between an Armenian restaurant on the first floor and a palm-reading salon on the third, was in a non-descript building just off bustling Michi

THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY Jack Scribe First, you must learn to pronounce the city name. It is Chi-caw-go, or Cha-ca-ga, depending on if you live North or South of Roosevelt Rd. Chapter 6, GENTLEMEN ALWAYS CARRY CARDS ‘Hate to see ten bucks do a vanishing act,’ Kris lamented as he paid the fare and got out of the Yellow Cab in front of his building. ‘Especially with a U-Pass in my pocket.’ His unlimited-ride pass on the CTA cost $100.00 per semester. That good deal, along with

THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY Jack Scribe Chicago is not the most corrupt American city. It’s the most theatrically corrupt. Studs Terkel Chapter 5, IT AIN’T OVER ’TIL IT’S OVER During the sports segment, Rob stepped out into the corridor and called John Kess – cell to cell. The call went directly into voicemail after four rings and Rob briefly described the fire. ‘He’s probably already aware of this mess.’ Rob returned to the anchor desk for the closing segment. After sig

“Damn it, Tink, Neverland has been a real drag since the Lost Boys went home with Wendy, Michael and John,” Peter Pan said to his fluttery flittering friend, Tinkerboy…Tink for short; this newest fairy of the realm returning as a pixie-dust male. “Well, Peter, that was then.” Tink had been saying ‘Peter’ exaggerated, making it Peetah since he’d arrived ten years ago. Fairies have a limited life span and Tink was only the latest of a series of sparkling, magic friends. “They went back an

THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY Jack Scribe Douchebag – someone who has surpassed the levels of jerk and asshole, however not yet reached fucker or motherfucker status. Not to be confused with douche. Urban Dictionary Chapter 4, DON’T SHOOT THE MESSENGER Listening to Sean O’Reilly whine and bitch on the phone was not high on Evan Jankovic’s list of fun things to do. ‘Although it beats hanging around this turkey in person for very long.’ The previous evening’s first convers

THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY Jack Scribe I think that’s how Chicago got started. A bunch of people in New York said, “Gee, I’m enjoying the crime and the poverty, but it just isn’t cold enough. Let’s go west.” Richard Jeni Chapter 14, BINGO NUMBERS The drive across the desert was boring, uneventful and butt ugly to a fault. The exception was the 7,000-foot elevation in and out of Flagstaff: the rugged rock formations, sturdy evergreens and random beds of wild flowers presented

THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY Jack Scribe The name Chicago is the French version of a Native American (Miami-Illinois) word, shikaakwa - meaning, stinky onion or land of the stinking onion. Chapter 3, ONION FIELDS The Lucky Horseshoe in gregariously gay Boystown was Sean O’Reilly’s favorite point of departure when he felt like getting in touch with his inner-self. After seeing a movie, he’d stopped off at the bar for a beer and to check out the strippers du jour. Not that the da

THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY Jack Scribe LSD is Lake Shore Drive, not lysergic acid diethyl amide, unless you’re talking to a drug dealer. In that case, LSD is lysergic acid diethyl amide, not Lake Shore Drive. Chapter 2, BREEZES FROM THE LAKE Jerry Franklin ran his fingers through his brush-cut black hair, then removed his tie and sighed as the condo elevator stopped at the 30thfloor. Home was a double-sized condo overlooking Lake Shore Drive that he shared with his partner Bill

Chapter 1 - State Street, that Great Street
Jack Scribe posted new chapter in That's the Chicago Way
THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY Jack Scribe He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue! That’s the Chicago way. The Untouchables– 1987 film Chapter 1, STATE STREET, THAT GREAT STREET It was a beautiful early September evening; Chicago’s sweltering dog days had faded and autumn was in the offing. In a landmark building that’d housed a vaudeville theater one hundred years earlier, ABC7’s Eyewitness News anchor t- 2 comments

The pictures of this tragedy are overwhelming (and that's saying something coming from a California resident. PROLOGUE The country was mad. Fences, fines, and amnesty – all sides voiced emotional backlash of their dissatisfaction. As each political party waffled in their attempts to pander to the greatest number of constituents, a bill to address immigration concerns floundered. Even a coalition of the pasty, bloated Senator from Massachusetts and the old warrior from Arizona could not save the day. Finally, lame duck President Dubya, with his wilted whiz kids and the fading 110th willowy Congress,

FRIDAY ENCOUNTER Brad Reynolds was standing alone at the bar in Spike, a quasi-leather joint on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, checking out the male scenery. The small, dimly lit room featured erotic poster art including bikers, buff males in leather attire, and Tom of Finland lithographs on the black walls. It was barely 10:30 p.m. on an early September Friday evening. He watched a few of the guys playing pool in macho-drag: torn, frayed Levi’s with crotches obviously sandpaper

SHORT STORY. Please be advised that parts of this story portray forced, non-consentual sex to emphasize the dangers of going home with someone you don't know. Although the story does have a positive ending, the road is a little bumpy getting there.

Nancy Pelosi was sworn in today as the 44th President of the United States, said the newly appointed White House Press Secretary, Helen Thomas. This came only a few short hours after a series of unusual events involving the former President, George W. Bush and former Vice President, Dick Cheney. There was the announcement from the penthouse Ralph Lauren Suite at Walter Reed Hospital, 24 hours ago, that the 43rd President had been afflicted with a rare medical condition known as digit-a
