  1. Now we had allies in Royal Valley. I did worry a little about others knowing we traveled this way, but we didn’t tell them how. Soon we heard the knock on the door. “I put two horses in the stable.” Gabe’s voice said. “I borrowed them from the livery. I’ll put them back tomorrow.” I opened the door. “But won’t someone notice they’re gone?” Gabe shrugged. “A horse is a horse. Deacon is the guy in charge of the livery. There were a dozen, I don

    Chapter 48

I was ten before I realized, being a preacher's son, I could say more than DARN and not burn for eternity. The real Sasha, and there is a real Sasha, just needed to know what people were saying to him. In the process, he told me what it was in Russian. The owner of the hotel wants premium rates all year around. I'm sure he'll jack it up a few dollars more when it happens.
  3. I get up the next morning and find both Sasha and Alik sitting at the table. Alik was not a happy little boy, but he was no longer crying or pouting. Well, that’s not true, he was pouting some appearing sullen and withdrawn, but manageable. “I took the liberty of checking the Internet,” I said sitting at the table with them. “It seems there are quite a lot of Russians here in Charleston.” Sasha’s eyes widened a little. “Really? Where are they?” He was surprised. “All around.” I smile

    Chapter 36

There wasn't any word from Demetrius he couldn't check on them. He said Erik and Seth couldn't call him. He was just checking on Toby and Dennis. The note he just had and forgotten. There was no address. Demetrius find a way.

    Corrected.
  6. I showed Christian the note. “Our past?” Christian frowned shaking his head. “But it mentions Ella. Which is it? My past? Her past? Our past?” I grinned sadly. “That’s the question. But the note does take the foreign question out.” I shook my head. “Whatever threat there is, it’s here in A’Dore.” Seth nodded. “But you’d better tell Ella. She needs to know that she was named specifically in the threat.” Christian shook his head. “But everyone loves her. She’s no threat to anyone!”

    Chapter 47

Not in Charleston. TSA is strict, but if you're willing to go through security, they let you meet a plane and it's passengers. Of course this was almost a decade ago when it happened. I've not done it but a few times.
  8. Alik seemed okay with what his mother said, but I wasn't sure he fully understood. That was yet to sink in. And there was the time difference. It was early evening when Alik was crashed on the sofa while he rested against Sasha in front of the TV. I bought some videos for children his age in Russian for him and he watched that. Then Tasha yawned and rose. “I better get him to bed.” She said smiling reaching for Alik. Sasha nodded. “I can do it.” I put my hand on Sasha’s arm. “Let

    Chapter 35

Demetrius is old, but the idea of being Grandpa didn't sit well.
  11. I woke again next to Seth that following morning. Today we needed to begin a thorough search of this Jean Claude Ramiere’s room. I rolled over to Seth who smiled at me instantly. “Good morning.” I greeted kissing him. Seth smiled. “So far.” He agreed. “Are we looking into what made Christian sick today?” “We have to.” I nodded. “We don’t have a choice.” “Any ideas?” Seth asked. “Not yet.” I shook my head. “But

    Chapter 46

it will hit the fan soon. But it's going to be handled.
  13. We went in with Sasha as he made the connection with the server to begin the call. We waited as there was a beeping to let Tasha and Alik know we were trying to connect. Now, this conversation is going to be in both Russian and English. To save myself carpel tunnel from typing, I’ll just do it in English. The screen suddenly came alive as the little happy face appeared. Alik was smiling at his father. “Hi, Papa!” Alik greeted in Russian. “Hi, Sport!” Sasha greeted warmly. “Are you gettin

    Chapter 45

I found out about some discontinued letters from their alphabet. I wondered how anyone typed on any keyboard with the Cyrillic Alphabet. But it's still alien.
  15. I talked with Sasha and found out what Alik liked to do. Tasha and Alik were coming in two weeks. I found out he liked puzzles I got some puzzles I thought he would enjoy and some with letters so he could learn them. Learning Russian was taking a turn for the not so pleasant. I was having trouble with Russian letters! There were thirty-three! There were two B’s. They weren’t B’s exactly, there was the B that was the buh sound, but there was another that had the veh sound. The first of those

    Chapter 44

Hey, I was and will always be a truck guy. And what he did surprise me with later, you'll understand when he does. But I still have Bubba.
  17. The next morning we all got up. But Sasha didn’t come down. He had to go to work that day, too. I made breakfast that morning. I made Tony’s coffee and heard David come down. “Sasha’s not coming down?” David asked. I smiled at David. “He meant what he said. I’ve never known him to say something he didn’t mean.” David nodded. “How do I tell him I chose him?” “You’ll have to show him,” I said simply. “The thing with Tony and me, we were in the same city. Our relationship was ri

About me and my husband, yes. There is my cousin David. Our waiter on ship was named Sasha. They existed. Artistic license allows some liberties. You guess what's real.

Maybe I should redo the title this part. Worlds are colliding, but not North and South. East and West?

    Chapter 43

    Is the suspense too much?
  22. Okay, I was paying Sasha under the table. That’s illegal, so report me. Rules and laws should be followed…until you know the whole story. Then it becomes personal. Sasha’s situation was personal. We, the hotel and I, broke the law. Be honest, how many laws have you broken? It’s okay if you feel it necessary, right? Well, I felt it was necessary! Were Tony and I being tricked by a very persuasive conman? Maybe. Was he using us to get what he wanted? Of course, he was. He would do anything to get

  24. I took the forms Sasha needed to have filled out and promised to deliver them in the morning. Then I turned to Sasha. “You need to clean up and change.” Sasha still reeling over being able to work and stay frowned. “Why?” He asked looking down at himself. Tony chuckled. “You can go out to eat with us like that if you like, but I’d prefer you didn’t smell like oven cleaner.” Then Tony was frowning. “Where did you get the oven cleaner anyway? We didn’t have it here.” Sasha nodded wi
  25. A Catholic funeral was new for me, but I went as I should. I knew from history and other sources that…gone were the sermons in Latin and now the priests were saying what was necessary in English. There was an elegance in the service I will readily admit. The two caskets held two very good people that I could see had touched a lot of people. They were there. Again, I was family and included as such. I sat beside Tony and Louise. The rest of the family covered a whole pew. Angelo and Kathleen had
