    Backstage Tryst

Thank you so much, Val. I have a tendency to write with more showing and less telling, because that's the way my mind works. Not sure if that's good or bad, but that's what we've got. Glad it works for this short piece. We can talk about the backstory another time... Cheers - Mac

    Backstage Tryst

No, I wasn't trying to get you to compare this to Dissonance, lol... It's a different story, from a different time... But I can see how you found some parallels between the two. You shared interesting observations on it, droughtquake, thank you!

    Backstage Tryst

Wow, AC, thank you for your great comments. It's an older piece that I decided to finesse slightly and post, and I'm glad that you like it. Not sure about the "masterful command" part that you mentioned, but I certainly appreciate the compliment. Cheers - Mac
  4. I rubbed nervous palms across my denim-covered thighs, trying once more to exhale the breath which remained stuck in my throat, unable to escape. Questions cascaded, like waterfalls of trepidation: How would this turn out? What would his reaction be? What the hell was I even doing there? I felt as though I’d lost the final vestiges of my mind... and yet there was nowhere else I would rather have been than right there in that theatre, watching his performance. It seemed I’d barely blinked befor
  5. On occasion, a long-distance love affair becomes reality, bridging the gap between mere fantasy and real-life passion. (This short story is several years old, but I thought I'd share.)

Hey Lisa, thanks so much. Ben is in it now whether he wants to be or not. We shall see what transpires next...

    Flying O Ranch

You are not reading too much into it, Gary. They were indeed a bit of a team there at the end. Ben stepped forward a notch, and Travis stepped back a notch. Thanks for your great comments.

    Flying O Ranch

Hey Larry, thanks for your review. Ben can be brave - maybe not about everything, but with this, he knew he needed to step forward to keep the situation from escalating. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. Much more to come. Cheers - Mac

    Flying O Ranch

Jack's wealthy and he's a prick, and he likes to have control, even though he's frantically wanting Travis. A little jealous there, too. He didn't like seeing someone else in the truck. Thanks for your comments, Val.

Ben didn't want to see things escalate, and and he figured they were headed in that direction. And Jack was pretty stunned to see him, so...

Thank you, Jeffrey. I'm happy to retain your interest.
  13. Okay Gary, I'm here, I'm hooked, let's get this story rolling! You've started us out with an intense beginning, delving straight into the character development that you're so damn good at. I commend your ability to "get into the head" of a young man who is going through some serious, inexplicable biological changes. You've woven a mystery within the first chapter and created a sense of loneliness for him. Well done. Onto the next! Cheers - Mac

    Lapse of Memory

Sense of "real" - thanks for that. I consider that a good compliment! There will be tension throughout this story, hence the title. But there will also be some enlightenment along the way. Thanks for offering your insights, Geron. Cheers
  15. Thanks for the review, Geron! Glad you're still reading. There is definitely more on the horizon for Ben and Travis, but it's not immediate. This chapter alludes to that. Having Audra and Bryan along will add to the various dynamics soon to come into play. Thanks again for your comments! Cheers - Mac

    Flying O Ranch

Ben hoisted his belongings into his arms and walked with Audra to the bank of elevators. Rolled his large suitcase along behind him. While waiting for an available car to arrive, he repeated, "I really appreciate your willingness to do this for me." "I told you, it's fine. Even if I still don't understand what's going on with you..." In the reflection of the heavy stainless steel doors, she adjusted the position of the silk scarf around her neck. It was but one small detail of her head-to-to

    Maroon Bells

Never worry about that, tim. I'm just happy that you follow this story and offer your insights when you can. You're right, there are still uncertainties - too many variables, too many unknowns between them still, and no immediate clear path ahead. We shall see... Cheers - Mac

    Maroon Bells

Gary, I totally get that. My plate feels full, too, there's not enough time to get everything done. So no need to apologize for "taking so long"! I'm glad that you took a moment to read and review it. And I'm glad that it touched you and that you understand the dynamics between B & T so well. Thanks for all of your great insights. Cheers - Mac
  19. This hit me very deeply tonight. This in particular, perfectly portrayed: "But it’s hard to mount an offensive when the lethal blow comes slowly." It's often easier when it's quick and brutal. Again, your words produce deep effect, Gary.

    Brink of Night

Hi Parker, thank you for the kind words. Sunset leading into night inevitably leads to sunrise and the morning, so that brings some reprieve. Cheers - Mac

    Brink of Night

Hi Val, yes, the disparity can be quite saddening (and maddening), but life is a myriad of events and interactions that we must muddle through and sort out and hopefully come out better on the other side from. There are always sunsets, therefore there are always sunrises, so that's a plus. xo

    Brink of Night

You're right about that - both people have to want the same thing. It's tough when they don't. Thanks for the review, Gary. As always, insightful. Cheers - Mac

Thank you, AC, I really appreciate your comment.
  25. “I can’t see us walking off into the sunset together,” he once said when I demanded to know, to understand, why he was so persistent to keep me at bay. I lay on the rumpled pillow facing him, recovering from the intensity of love, gazing into his gold-green eyes – those eyes like stained-glass windows illuminating a prismatic soul, leaving me with the sensation of free-falling, too soon to hit the ground – And I reached out to caress his scalp and touch the light stubble on his
